Here it is, Project Chevelle Wagon. It sure didn't look this good when I got it (7/4/99) But at least it's starting to look like a car now.... |
The original dashboard was missing, and my friend Larry had to talk really hard to the guy to get him to part with it. Car was also missing motor, trans, crossmember, rear end, windshield, doghouse, and all the wiring. back glass in tailgate was shattered... In October, I found a '68 donor car that had been hit HARD in the right front. But it still had a good 290hp/327, and powerglide trans, also a 3:08 posi rearend that I still have....... |

Here's the wagon still on the trailer the day I got it (7/99). It had been a race car about the last 6 yrs. and last had a 396/400 with a 12 bolt posi. It had been pretty well stripped by it's previous owner, and had been hit kinda good in the rear. If you look closly at the picture above, you will see a slight bow in the roof just above the back door |
By the end of the summer, I was starting to make some progress. I went to Super Chevy Indy and got a core support with a perfect grille for $100, and another guy had 3 rusty fenders for $100 each. By sunday, I had him talked into selling me all 3 for $100! Larry was parting out a '70 El Camino that donated it's rear end (3:08 single spin?) and driveshaft. That's when I ran into problems. '64-'67 chevelles have longer trailing arms on the rearend than the '68-'72 cars, so after tracking down the rightstuff, I installed the rear & pulled the body damage out... |
