This Declaration was created by the National Assembly and approved on August 26, 1789 which stated the principle that all men had equal rights under the law. This document became the basis for all subsequent declarations of human rights.

Not every person was included in this declaration. Adult free man were. Women, though they had some rights were considered far from equal citizens. There were also hundreds of thousands of slaves that weren't equal.

The Declaration of the Rights of Man gave equalness to only adult free men which this also brought up more of the question if slavery should remain, a contentious issue throughout the revolution.
