Many pet stores get their puppies from Puppy Mills- Try to choose a pet from a shelter instead

Ever see a dog in a pet store eating his/her own feces? That dog probably came from a puppy mill.
Puppy mills are disgusting places where dogs are made to breed as often as possible to make the most amount of puppies a to be sold to pet shops for the greatest profit. These dogs don't get any veterinary care and they live in filthy conditions in small cages outside. The female dogs that give birth to the puppies rarely get a chance to recover from giving birth so often. Plus, these puppies are more likely to be unhealthy because breeding within litters is encouraged.
So you may be thinking that by buying these dogs from pet stores you are giving them good homes, and doing them a favour....WRONG!
By supporting pet shops you are encouraging and supporting the abuse of dogs on puppy mills. That dog you buy will only be replaced by another who has to suffer the same things. If the public doesn't buy animals from pet stores, then there will not be a demand for them from puppy mills. Therefore, there will be no need to run puppy mills and so less dogs will be born into that environment. If the profit is not there, the puppy mills just can't be run.
Life at a pet shop isn't much better than life at the puppy mill. Animals are kept in really small cages and they get no attention. If they were getting the attention they needed, then the pet shop employees would notice that the dog had pooed and the dog wouldn't resort to eating its own feces!!! GROSS!!!

What's the lesson today? Don't buy puppies from pet stores! Buy dogs from animal shelters! They need homes the most.
