What's Veal? veal is the name people use for the baby calfs they eat.
It's more of a 'gourmet' type meal because the flesh of calves are more pale or something. Basically veal is aneamic
cows. I don't know why anyone would ever want to eat this though...anyways:
When these calves are born, they are immediately taken away from their
mothers. They are put into a wooden crate in solitary confinement where they are tethered to the crate. Like
the pigs in farrowing and gestation crates, they can't move or turn around. They can't perform the basic instinctual
behaviours, like grooming themselves. They are tethered because if they move a lot their flesh will strengthen and it
won't be as pink. To keep their flesh pale and tender, they are also deprived of iron and so often they will resort
to drinking their own urine. What the factory farm workers do is fatten up these babies in the shortest amount of time
so the calves are fed a liquid diet which causes them to become anemic and thus crave the iron they lack.
The lifetime of these animals is 16 wks upon when they are taken to slaughter
all so some greedy and ignorant bastard can eat a 'gourmet meal'.
