| Estes Park Fire - wanna be a member?
The Estes Park Volunteer Fire Dept is a group of diverse members from all walks of life. Each member seems to have a vested interest in public safety- in one way or another. Some are in the field by trade- Paramedics, Dispatchers, Sheriff's Deputies- and some are in by specialized interest- extrication and rescue- fire suppression and others. Plumbers, electricians, business owners, town employees- we are from everywhere! The process to join the EPVFD is straightforward. There are several steps that have been set-up to identify any potential concerns with new members- for their benefit, and the Departments. To start, a written firefighting aptitude test is given to determine how 'cut out' any individual is for firefighting. Then, a physical ability 'test'- to determine if s/he has the physical stamina and strength to work as a firefighter... Then an oral interview to find out about the prospective members' schedule and availability, as well as the ability to function under stress... While at the same time offering the applicant a chance to ask questions of department members. Successful applicants are offered a spot on the EPVFD for a probationary period during which they must attend a firefighting academy (at the department's expense) which meets 2-3 nights/week. A thorough process that rewards the best candidates with the chance to serve alongside the proud members of the EPVFD. Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for membership:
