Art Monk Records
A fairly new website here, therefore not the richest in content. The really good news from Art Monk, is that they are soon to be releasing their early 7" series onto one CD. I am also "patiently" waiting for them to release the Samuel 7"s onto CD, due out some time this year with two acoustic tracks....bonus!
Big Wheel Recreation
I think this label is certainly looking good lately, a brand new website just in time for the exlcusive vinyl release of the new Jimmy Eat World 2xlp "Clarity". The CD version, like their last LP will be released by Capitol records. The record came out only last month and is already hotly tipped to shoot these Arizona boys to super-stardom.
This label also provides us with Jejune, their last LP "This Afternoons Malady" is one of my fave records at the minute. I managed to see them three times last month and they were excellent each night.
Caulfield Records
This label have recently redesigned their website, mostly the same content with a new look. The records haven't changed though. Some RealAudio soundfiles to listen to of new recruits Luck of Aleia, mixed in with older favourites such as Christie Front Drive, Giants Chair and Traluma. This site has a fairly busy message board.
Crank! A Recording Company
This is one of my favourite labels at the minute. Some great releases over the years from Mineral, Vitreous Humor and Boys Life. Recently this label brought us two records from The Gloria Record and another from the Swedish band Fireside, sometime soon they are going to be releasing their 10" vinyl series onto CD too. This is an excellent website with lots of sounds in Real Audio to listen to of some really great bands. Also a very busy message board.
Deep Elm Records
Based in New York, Deep Elm have just released the third of their Emo Diaries Compilation CD's. Also in the works is the 2nd full length from Camber, due to be released sometime soon. A good page with lots of information about the bands on the label, also a fair amount of downloadable 30 sec soundfiles in aiff format.
Desoto Records
A neat little website, home to Burning Airlines, Jawbox and Compound Red among others. February heralded the release of the new Burning Airlines full length, Mission: Control! These guys recently finished a rather splendid European tour and split 7" with Braid.
Gern Blandsten
A Southern Recs. based website so you get band and show info plus the usual soundfiles in more formats than you can think of. Latest releases from The Lapse (ex-Van Pelt) and Dalek who both recently toured Europe.
(Distributed by Southern Recs.)
Grand Theft Autumn
For the time being just links to each of the band pages, more info to come soon on new releases.
Band links include, Braid, Sarge and The Sky Corvair.
Jade Tree
Ahhh, home to those indie/pop favourites The Promise Ring. Oh i almost forgot, Jets To Brazil, Joan of Arc and Cap n' Jazz! A really well designed site with lots of band info, tours, pics and sounds in wav format.
Merge
Entering their 10th year with none other than the new LP from Seaweed! A new Superchunk 7" in February and a 10 year compilation due out this year too.....it's all good.
No Karma Recordings
No Karma recently got themselves back online with a brand new website to ponder over. Latest release comes from Cup 388, with a couple more in the works for the next few months.
Playing Field Recordings
It seems everyone is putting up new webpages lately, and Playing Field is no exception. You get band and show info here with a couple of Real Audio clips thrown in for good measure.
Polyvinyl Records
Home to the likes of Braid, Rainer Maria etc. Right now they are in the process of releasing a CD series.
The brand new LP from Rainer Maria is due for release very soon, all the details are here.
Good site with message board, sounds etc.
Quarterstick Records
Over 50 releases so far for this label. Tons of Henry Rollins stuff in the back catalogue, my personal faves here...June of 44. (Distributed by Southern Recs.)
Simple Machines Records
This label epitomised the DIY ethic and now is unfortunately closed down forever. Of course some of their stuff is surely long out of print, I just wouldn't want you to miss out on Ida or Tsunami.
(Distributed by Southern Recs.)
Southern Records and Distribution
Huge website due to the amount of labels Southern distributes. Over 100 band and record label pages, a great tour database plus lots of sound files to download in various formats, including real audio.
The Southern record label recently released the latest Karate LP, which is a very fine record indeed.
Sub Pop
I think everyone has heard of this label, hardly surprising with the quality of releases over the years.
My latest favourite has to be the new Sunny Day Real Estate LP.
Tree Records
The latest news from Tree is that they recently re-released their Postmarked Stamps 7" series onto CD. 18 bands including, Braid, The Get Up Kids, Ida, Ethel Meserve among others....cool.
Touch & Go Records
Download songs from the latest Touch & Go releases, including a song from the latest Seam LP.
Also host to the likes of Slint, Arcwelder and Shellac. Exactly 200 LP releases to date and counting.
