Ikebana: February 28, 2003
Ikebana Ikebana is an art form that eplores the nature of flowers and means "The way of the Flower". Ikebana is a very old Japanese art form which originated from China. One school of Ikebana is the Ikenobo school of Ikebana. Ikenobo was founded in the sixth century Japan by Ono no Imoko who changed his name to Semmu. He was the guardian of a temple in Kyoto and lived in a small hut the ikenobe or "hut by the pond". For many years he developed the style of ikebana and there are written records of what he discovered and learned. Ikenobo is a more formal and traditional way to create Ikebana and is not the only way to create Ikebana. There is also the Wafu school of Ikebana. This school is more curren than the school of Ikenobo. The school was founded in the early twentieth century. This style of Ikebana "emphasizes the harmony among the flowers, vase, and environment in which the arrangement is placed." Ikebana is an art form that explores the way of the flower to better understand the beauty of nature. ![]() ![]() |
