How to join in the game...

--Joining--
To join, you'll first need mIRC (www.mirc.com) or an other IRC client (www.ceruleanstudios.com) to connect to the IRC server Mech Lab is ran on. After configurating your client properly, connect to irc.sorcery.net (the command with mIRC/Trillian is /connect irc.sorcery.net). Once you are connected, join #Mech_lab (/j #MechLab with mIRC/Trillian).

Once in the channel, you'll speak with a channel operator. They'll will ask you to view the site if you haven't already and tell you about the channel...usually in a Q&A format.
We advise you watch a session ot two before creating your character, in order to get a feel for what kind of RP we do so you dont make a character which you'll only play once then forget. Then, you'll be asked about your character in order for you to get an idea what they will be like.

In your character sheet, you should include as much detail as possible. If you want examples of character sheets, check out the character selection on the site. Send the sheet (In .txt od .doc format) to a channel operator (A-C is your best bet as they will all end up with him anyhow) and your character will be reviewed. Chances are you will probably be asked some questions about your character (to tie up any loose ends ans also to test how much thought you have put into your character), and if we like what we see and think you and your character are for for Mech Lab then you will be accepted, voiced and can begin playing immediatley.

--Character Sheets--

Character creation is a pretty simple process...All you have to do is create a .txt or .doc file and fill it in with information about your character.

Try to include as much detail as you can without overkill: physical description, past history, personality, etc.. Whatever you feel we need to know.

The reason we do this this is to let us know who your character is, and to find out if that character is fit for the RP (IE-not overly powerful and someone who would be able to have a good time in the Lab)

It also serves the purpose of showing us what you can do in terms of descriptions and creativity.

In Mech Lab,there are guidelines as to what your characer has to be.

Your character has to be either human, cyborg (human with robotic parts) or an android. Fantasy races such as elves will not be accepted as they dont exist on earth (evolved humans will be accepted to an extent...talk with the ops to flatten things out)

And as long as your character is one of these things, you can have pretty much anything you like...

Because of the advanced technology, we're pretty liberal with special skills (after all, the founder's character can turn her arm into a gun) but don't go overboard. It isnt fair to people who have been playing every day for years to suddenly be equalled by the new guy on their first day.

Your character sheet should be well-detailled and not overly short. A few lines won't do but a few medium-lenght paragraphs is great. A couple of pages is ven better. Your character sheet should also be well-spaced and have proper grammar and spelling because some channel operators may not even want to look at your character sheet if it's all stuck together in one long, horribly butchered paragraph. Don't be surprised if your sentences look something like "my kaructar comes frum japanhe didnt liek teh wethar u know so he left" and the channel operator assesing you tells you they won't read your application form.

Finally, make sure you don't leave out important things. If you haven't told us about a power your character has, he or she doesn't have it, end of story. If your character sheet says your character is human and when playing him or her he/she suddently has wings, that won't be allowed. If there are any questions about your character, a channel operator will contact you to resolve the matter before we accept.

The reason why we want to know these things are twofold: first of all, it's necessary to make sure that your character won't completely ruin the RP by, say, killing everyone there in a fit of rage.

Second, you should consider this as a test. The amount of work you put in your character sheet will show us how imaginative you are. If you can't come up with a coherant background story for your character and can't write more than 2-3 lines, we'll assume (fairly or otherwise) that you cant do any better in RP and wont accept.
