an extract from “on the pathos of truth” by friedrich nietzsche, the full quote about ⅔ down  this page

once upon a time, in some out of the way corner of that universe

which is dispersed into numberless twinkling solar systems,

there was a star upon which clever beasts invented knowing.

that was the most arrogant and mendacious minute of  “world history”,

but nevertheless, it was only a minute.

after nature had drawn a few breaths, the star cooled and congealed,

and the clever beasts had to die.

one might invent such a fable,

and yet he still would not have adequately illustrated how miserable,

how shadowy and transient,

how aimless and arbitrary the human intellect looks within nature

there were eternities during which it did not exist.

and when it is all over with the human intellect, nothing will have happened.

if you refuse to let your own suffering lie upon you even for an hour

and if you constantly try to prevent and forestall

all possible distress way ahead of time

if you experience suffering and displeasure as evil,

hateful, worthy of annihilation,

and as a defect of existence

then it is clear that you harbour in your heart

the religion of comfortableness

how little you know of human happiness,

you comfortable people

for happiness and unhappiness are sisters

and even twins that either grow up together

or as in your case

remain small together

remember that you must behave in life as at a dinner party

is anything brought around to you ?

put out your hand and take your share with moderation

does it pass by you ?

don't stop it

don't let your need stretch your hand towards it

but wait till it reaches you.

do this with regard to children, to a wife, to public life, to wealth,

and if you don't even take the things which are set before you,

but are able even to reject them,

deservedly became,

i felt in him what women feel in men, something so tender, swollen, tyrannical, absurd; i would never take the consequences of interfering with it

a quote    by franz grillparzer from his  ‘ notebooks and diaries ’   ( 1811-1816 )

“ genius differs from talent not by the amount of original thoughts, but by making the latter fertile and by positioning them properly, in other words, by integrating everything into a whole, whereas talent produces only fragments, no matter how beautiful ”

alice munroe encapsulates the writers/mystics dilemma !

she was asked in her nobel prize   interview   whether there had ever been periods where she was unable to write  ?  [25:00]

yah, hm hm hm hm ahh . . i’m trying to think, well i gave up writing just about how long ago was it ? a year, not a year ago yet, but that was a decision ,  that was not wanting to write and not having . . it was more of a decision that i wanted to behave like the rest of the world in the sense that when you are a writer you are never quite like other people, you are doing some job that other people don’t know you are doing and you can’t talk about it really and you are just finding your way in this secret world and then you are doing something else in the normal world, and i guess i was a little tired of that, though i had done it all my life, absolutely all my life

the above is a   quote  of henri amiel

well from one perspective we are outraged when we are done in by it, from another, the withholding can be be very effective when used by ourselves in an adversarial context !

so when its done to you take note the context is or has turned adversarial !

its interesting about forgiveness, i don’t think you forgive or forget for good reason, but you can move to a more functional space where logic rather than emotion rules . .

people make mistakes, but the trajectory won’t differ, caution and not being too negative are spaces to move forward . . i n t o ! ?

“ i don't think he ever goes too far, because he is just writing what he is writing from himself, you can never go too far, its infinite what you can say and what you can feel and what you can express, and so its never too far, its always  good and looking forward to more, whatever the content is it just gets further and further, but its not shocking, maybe more truthful and i like that ”
