We're Moving - Lampy
@ 6:12:34 pm EDT
We are basically going to shut Music Central down for a little
while, so we can add new sections, features, and move to another host and url. This
page will still be here until we get settled into our new url, but we won't be updating
news here. The "new" Music Central should be up in about a week, or
however long it takes to finish the work.

Webnoize '98 - Lampy
@ 9:54:35 pm EDT
The WebNoize Conference in Los Angeles is
changing everything in the digital audio world and the mp3 format is advancing very
quickly. You can listen to
the live broadcasts - it's the best way to keep up to date with the newest
announcementss from Webnoize '98.
Oasis Singer
Arrested - Lampy @ 9:45:53 pm EDT
The lead singer from Oasis, Liam Gallagher, was arrested [again] on
Wednesday for "criminal damge to a camera," as the London police described.
He was just arrested in March for headbutting a fan in Brisbane, Australia.
Speaking of Oasis, their new album, The Masterplan, came out yesterday.
Alanis Morissette, Celine Dionne, Beck, The Rolling Stones, 311, Hanson and others also released albums
yesterday along with The John Lennon Anthology and City of Angels and Rugrats soundtracks.
Even More MP3
Players - Lampy @ 9:35:17 pm EDT
In the past couple of days, new versions
of Nad, K-Jofol, C-4, and the MP3.com/Winamp player have been announced. It seems
that new mp3 players are coming out every day - it's very hard to keep up with. I
haven't tried either of these, but you can if you'd like. Apollo 19, a new mp3
player with its own decoding engine, is out and it seems to have some nice features such
as multiple playlists. Download it if you want (North America/Europe). Also, WPlay v1.70b just came out too.
It has some good additions, but I've heard that the interface is pretty bad.

Diamond Forms
Partners - Lampy @ 4:55:57 pm EDT
Diamond Multimedia has recently made two parnterships - one with
Liquid Audio and the other with Audio Explosion. The Liquid Audio format will be
included in the Diamond RIO. Its format is a preference in the music industry because of
its locked format. I'm not sure if this will effect the outcome of the RIO much, but
as long as it plays mp3s well, I'm happy.
Also, Audio Explosion new website, Mjuice.com,
which will have over 200 licensed songs for $1.00/download. Diamond will include a
card with the RIO that will allow customers to receive five dollars worth of songs for
free. This allows Diamond to provide their customers with a wide variety of legal
mp3s.

Naddy - Lampy
@ 8:03:03 pm EDT
In my post below, I forgot to mention Naddy (formerly known as Nad,
but they had to change names because a different company had copyrights owning Nad).
Anyways, it should be released soon. In addition to a new version of aE as I
mentioned on Friday, it will have the original ID3 tag editor, a pop-up button with
'Previous,' 'Play,' 'Pause,' 'Stop,' and 'Next,' a track position bar, mIRC support, and a
scrolling song title feature. Right now, though, it's only the beta, so it's not
exactly made for looks, but it should be great for function and preferences.
More MP3 Players - Lampy
@ 4:37:02 pm EDT
The next version of K-Jofol came out on the
weekend. It has "Aural Excitaion Mode" like Winamp's "Aural
Stimulaion Mode," better volume control, VQF seeking, and as always, bug fixes.
It seems great, go get it!
Also, another mp3 player is
going to be made. Winamp and MP3.com announced that they will combine their resources to
create a new mp3 player integrated with MP3.com's mp3 archive. I heard that this new
MP3.com/Winamp mp3 player will be out in about a month.
Attention:
Webmasters - Lampy @ 3:54:28 pm EDT
Sorry about the lack of updates over the weekend, but I'll get some
posts up later today. Right now I am looking for affiliates, so webmasters, if you
have an established site and are interested in an affiliation, please tell me (don't forget to include your url).
News for October 30
MP3 of the Day - CanucK
@ 9:08:23 pm EDT
Todays MP3 of the day is by the Barenaked Ladies, the great Canadian
band topping the charts these days. I'm sure everyone has heard and has One Week (if
you don't, get it through our ftp, "our mp3s" on the sidebar), their hit song,
so I thought I'd do a less known one, Shoe
Box. This one is pretty good and funny, so get
it!
From now on I'll try to give
more information, like links to the band's homepage, some cool facts about the song, and
stuff like that, so make sure to tell everyone you know to come daily =)
Cracks to be
Banned?- Lampy @ 6:42:35 pm EDT
I just read that the "Digital
Millenium Copyright Act was passed by Congress earlier this month." Apparently,
this act will make it illegal to create or sell any technology used to break copyright
protection devices in eighteen months in the US. The full article is by skyx over at
dmusic.
Two New MP3
Players - Lampy @ 6:35:42 pm EDT
There are going to be two new mp3 players - Nad and C-4. Well,
the first isn't actually new, but it is a dated mp3 player that has recently been
"resurrected." Nad had a fairly large fan following due to its superior
sound, but its production was stopped to further its engine, audio Enlightenment (aE).
Its producer, SexoRasta, just decided to re-release the player because people liked
it so much. Nad v1.0 will contain a newer version of audio
Enlightenment, aE v2.9b, or mabye even version 3. This player will have a lot of
fixes, and it should be re-released during the week.
C-4
is the other "new" mp3 player gaing a large following. Its programmer,
Panic, will start to work on it again. It will have an equilizer, ID3 tag editor,
upgraded decoder, Four Corner Modes, a new GUI, and probably skin support.
RIAA Asks for
Appeal - Lampy @ 5:57:16 pm EDT
I was hoping that my previous RIO vs. RIAA post would be the last,
but I guess not. The RIAA, as you can imagine, is not happy with the court's
decision, so they along with the AARC (Alliance of Artists and Recording Companies) have
decided to ask for an appeal to try again to stop the shipment of Diamond Multimedia's
$199 portable mp3 player. There is a relevant article at Yahoo - read it if you're interested. Fox
News also posted and article about mp3 publicity, which mentions the RIO vs. RIAA
case.
