I will be sure to keep you posted on any new developments and hope that we will be
able to have some of you come to show your support. The show may be gone, but the legacy lives on in the lives of of

TV Q&A with Rob Owen!
Thursday, May 27, 2004
Q: Well CBS did it again!!! They canceled a good show in "The Guardian" only
to replace it with junk. I realize there is nothing the general public can do now to revive the show on CBS and that there
is little chance of it resurfacing on another network, but I just wonder when the network execs will learn to recognize quality?
If history is any indication ... probably never!!!
- Jon Taylor, Wexford
Jon, did CBS send you a tape of "Clubhouse," the show that's replacing "The Guardian"? No? Then how do you know it's junk?
I understand being disappointed when a favorite series is dropped, but let's try to be rational, folks. Read my Saturday column for a glimpse at some of the possible reasons for the show's cancellation.
Q: Many years ago, after ABC canceled "Taxi," NBC picked it up for its last two seasons.
Now that CBS has ditched "The Guardian," which had respectable ratings overall, is there any chance that another network might
pick it up?
- Richard Schultz, Tikva, Israel
Alas, no. I think within the TV business, "The Guardian" is looked at as damaged goods. It never got a critical buzz or
awards, as "Taxi" did, so it won't find a benefactor in another network.
Last call on "The Guardian"!
"It's over. I loved it. It wasn't catching fire," CBS CEO Leslie Moonves said quickly and testily. "We
had three great years in a great time period. Tell your Pittsburgh readers we're very sorry, we loved it
and we're not against doing [another show] again [in Pittsburgh]." For a full report on event, click

You'd see things on "The Guardian" you wouldn't see on other network shows. The main character, Nick

stolen their space. For a full report on event, click here.

New article from Zap2it.com!
The future of "The Guardian" is in serious doubt, even though the third year drama is a frequent

its performance among young adults is weak enough to spell its doom. . For a full report on event, click here.

New article from The Star-Ledger!
As TV's most-watched network, CBS doesn't have a lot of scheduling holes. "The Guardian"
isn't doing badly, but it's at best a reliable singles hitter in a lineup that could use some more doubles and triples. But
the current regime at CBS also has a better sense than any other network of how to program with variety.
If the choice comes down to "The Guardian" or another cookie-cutter police procedural from the Jerry Bruckheimer
factory, it might be nice to go with the one CBS drama that doesn't resemble any other show on television.

New article from PPG!
The Guardian had its ups and downs, which will happen when a show runner takes the flying-by-the-seat-of-our-pants
path to plotting as opposed to the plan-it-out-a-season-at-a-time approach. Characters were introduced and then disappeared
without explanation, a frustrating exercise for loyal viewers. But just about every time I thought David Hollander
had painted himself into an unsatisfying corner, he surprised me with an unexpected resolution, the kind that only comes out
of allowing for natural spontaneity in the creative process. For anyone who watches copious amounts of television, surprise
twists are the rarest of TV gifts. For a full report on event, click here.

New article from PPG!
|
The future of the show seems to be unsure with two new episodes remaining to be aired. |
David Hollander speculates that, if renewed, "The Guardian" could draw in more viewers by
becoming "a little less dark, a little less cold and _ Simon Baker will hate me for saying this _ but let's see him
smile and laugh a couple more times."
He acknowledges it's difficult to make promises to change while campaigning on a show's track record.
Hollander won't even try.
"I couldn't promise anything I haven't already delivered. I've already given them 67 hours of television. They know what
`The Guardian' is ... All I can really say is, 'Take me or leave me.'"

Help needed From The Florida chapter of the ALS association!
The
March 9 episode of The Guardian
-- featuring the character portrayed by Alan Rosenberg receiving a diagnosis of ALS is getting strong
support in the ALS community. We are now establishing an alliance
with the show that we anticipate will result in a solid relationship with the creators and access to Alan for various
opportunities. Alan visited the National Office recently
to meet with patients and patient services staff from the Los Angeles Chapter in an effort to refine his character for future
episodes.
You can help us as we mobilize a letter writing campaign to support this show and keep the storyline
on the air. This show plans to continue with the ALS theme if it gets
picked up next season. The attached letter has been approved and endorsed by
the show's creator at CBS. Also is a list of CBS executives to direct the letters
to their attention.
Thanks for your help in creating awareness about ALS.

Help Save The Guardian From The National Downs Syndrome Society!
With the birth growing closer and the 2004 season coming to a close, THE GUARDIAN has not been renewed
by CBS and has been mentioned in the media as a show that might be cancelled.
The producers of THE GUARDIAN have proven through these recent episodes that they plan to handle the plot
about Down syndrome in a responsible and sensitive manner. They have worked to ensure that their representation
is accurate and realistic. If THE GUARDIAN is renewed for the 2004/2005 season, issues affecting the Down
syndrome community will continue to receive high visibility with a national primetime audience. The public awareness
that can be generated through this type of show is considerable!

"The Guardian"(CBS, on hiatus. Returns at 9 p.m. Tuesdays on April 27): A traditional CBS drama about
a young Pittsburgh lawyer. Ho hum. Except that Simon Baker's fascinating, layered portrait of a tortured soul, the

TV Q&A with Rob Owen!
Thursday, March 25, 2004
Q: Thanks to the recent Dish TV vs. Viacom dispute I missed the
last episode of "The Guardian." When, if ever will they be repeating the last season? I don't understand CBS bringing on a
new show when "The Guardian" is one of the best shows on. It is refreshing in that it is not "reality" or "CSI" which seems
to be the current fare.
-- Barbara Bendera, Blairsville
Ratings for "The Guardian" are not good in reruns, which is why it has been replaced by first-run episodes of the mid-season
replacement "Century City." It's possible CBS will rerun the current season this summer, but given that they replaced "Guardian"
reruns last summer with a reality show, I wouldn't hold my breath.

News about Wendy Moniz!
Wendy Moniz captured the role of Lulu Archer after auditioning for another part in the series. Soon after
her first audition, Moniz was delighted to learn that the producers were interested in seeing her for Lulu Archer.
Upon reading the script, Moniz knew the character of Lulu was a natural fit.
Influenced by her mother's
involvement in community theatre, Moniz began acting at the tender age of five and continued through high school and
college. "I can't remember a time when acting wasn't a part of my life."she says.

The Most Attractive(Famous)Women in America:2004!
25. Wendy Moniz / 34 / Missouri
(Guiding Light, Tuesdays with Morrie, The Guardian)
Wendy's natural look and demeanor on The Guardian is far removed from the flashy and glossy appearance
of her soap days and this fits her much, much better. She is almost literally delectable-looking.
Her character is incredibly down-to-earth and the only marginally sane adult on the show. She makes you root for Lulu
on the one hand but you also wish she could find someone better than the show's protaganist, recovering addict and emotional
lockbox Nick Fallin, to fall for. Moniz brings out all the subtleties and contradictions in such a frustrating
life.
And did I mention she is absolutely smokin'?
