Without any doubt, Audiograbber and Easy CD-DA Extractor are the best CD ripper you can find.
Both programs have many options, and some of these options are not easy to configure (jitter correction, unbuffered burst copy).

Personally, I prefer Audiograbber because the interface is better than Easy CD-DA extractor, and at each step of the ripping process, Audiograbber presents very professionally designed windows with nice progress bar indicators that show you clearly what's going on.

Audiograbber can automatically normalize the music (from version 1.60, there is an advanced normalization option which is not found in other programs), delete silence from the start and/or end of tracks, and send them to Fraunhofer ACM Pro Codec or other external encoder for automatic creation of MP3. In addition, Audiograbber offers the option to record from cassette or vinyl players through the line-in of the sound card (line-in analog sampling).

There is a small program, actually a single file of 78 kb which can do the process of ripping for you in a so simple and efficient manner, that you will wonder why you didn't hear about it before. This file called Alternative CDFS replaces the Microsoft's cdfs.vxd device driver, which is found in c:\windows\system\iosubsys. To install it you just rename the original cdfs.vxd to something else, copy the file in the above directory and restart your computer.

Once you have installed the file you will notice, if there is an audio CD in the drive (and only if there is an audio CD in the drive), several subdirectories in the CD-ROM directory.
These subdirectories will contain wav files named Track01.wav, Track02.wav, Track03.wav, and so on as you can see
here.

For best quality, you will select the wav files contained in the subdirectory stereo, 16 bits, 44100 Hz. These virtual wav files (they are virtual because they are created or extracted only if you want to use them) will behave exactly like any other wav file, which means you can play them with any wav player like Winamp or Sonique, you can send them to an encoder for one step MP3 creation, or edit them with dedicated programs like Cooledit or Wavelab.

This alternative cdfs is actually a very simple but fast and robust CD ripper that shows your CD audio tracks as wav files, and creates (extracts digitally) these wav files as soon as another program want to use them. I am using this file for more than 6 months now, and I have never heard any click or pop in my wav files.
With this file you will be able to do your ripping automatically, without having to launch any program.

Vladimir Kopjov has written a small program based on the same principle than alternative CDFS. This program is available as an input plug-in for Winamp, Sonique and Apollo.
This plug-in transforms audio CD tracks into 44100 Hz, 16 bits stereo wav files and send them to the player, which will play high quality sound because wav format is the standard uncompressed (and unaltered) windows sound format, and because of the availability of the equalizer and other DSP plug-ins (as you know, normally the software equalizer is not available when playing audio CD with your computer because CD tracks are played without being processed by the computer).

The plug-in supports CDDB and cdplayer.ini (i.e. it can get CD tracks info like artist and album names from the internet or from the file cdplayer.ini located in the windows directory), with customizable title formating as you can see on the
configuration panel.

It's the only way you can listen to your audio CD with the possibility to enhance the sound quality with the software equalizer.

I think the program is not very popular because some CD-ROM drives are not supported. My drive is an IDE CD-ROM drive manufactured in Taiwan, and I am getting very good results. If your CD-ROM drive is supported, you will be amazed by the ease of use of this alternative CDFS.
