The KIIDS program goal is to
promote success, cooperation, fun, and a sense of pride and accomplishment
in the area of science.
Who's involved?: 3rd. grade classes (3 at a time)
parents (3 per class, total 9)
middle school students (3 per class, total 9)
Where?: Elementary cafeteria or suitable larger space
DUTIES...
Classroom Teacher will:
- choose ONE hands-on science activity pertaining to a
pre- determined science concept
- collect enough materials for their activity to supply 3 stations
(one for each of the 3 classes)
- organize materials to be stored in a tub, ready for the parent/middle
school student support team
Middle School Student will:
- study the hands-on science activity
- have a clear understanding of the concept being presented
- create visual aides for the activity station (charts, posters,
etc.)
- help to set-up the activity station
- help to run the activity station
- tear-down the station & return non-consumables to tubs
Parent will:
- study the hands-on science
activity
- have a clear understanding of the concept being presented

* Classes will be divided into thirds (max. 6 students per team)
* Each KIIDS team will spend twenty minutes exploring
their classroom stations.
* Teachers will have the opportunity to observe students and
to initiate inquiry based dialogue.
* Elementary students will give a written evaluation of the KIIDS
program upon completion.
What do we do when it's over?
This is a Trial Run... Teachers, parents and the middle school
students will meet to discuss the program. It will then be decided
how often to run the program (i.e. 1x month or every other month).
