The Conversation Room

I always say that creating a conversation room is a wonderful opportunity for mothers to create a space that's always tidy and company ready, the children are not allowed in that room unless you have company, and it's a nice little refuge from the constant noise of the television.

The formula for a great conversation room:

Should probably be the first sitting room to see upon entry of your home.  No television but stereo speakers are OK.  Different sources of lighting, from lamps to pot lights to candles.  Some comfortable chairs and possibly a couch, chaise lounge or love seat.  A coffee or tea table large enough to set a tray upon.
Lots of accessories.

When positioning your major pieces, always keep in mind the purpose of the room.  You want the furniture placed in an intimate grouping to allow comfortable conversation.  Tables should be within easy reach of seating to allow for ease of refreshments.  Your focal point can be a fireplace, piano, or a wall grouping of associated art.  Remember that this is a room for sitting in, so all wall art should be positioned at eye level while sitting.   Speakers, if they are not built ins, should be hidden or disguised in some way.  Small speakers are easy to hide and you can still get great sound.  The conversation room can also do double duty as a reading room.  If you can, creating a reading corner with a comfortable chair, a table, and a small book shelf.  If space doesn't allow for such a luxury, stack books wherever you can.
