And Yet Still More Random Thoughts

Mini Cows

Back when I first started writing this site, one of my very first entries ever was about cross-breeding and genetic engineering and how bizarre it all seemed to me.

Most of you probably haven't read it, even though I know several people online who claim that they've read everything I've ever posted even though I know with 1000% certainty that they haven't. But all of that is cool, whatever. If you're interested, read it now by clicking the link above.

ANYWAY.......

One of the things I wondered about is how come there are little tiny Shetland Ponies, like those little ones that kids ride on at fairs, but there were no Shetland Cows.

It turns out there are Shetland Cows. They're just called mini-cattle, though, but they are seriously these tiny little cows that you can breed and eat and everything. About a year ago, I read where this guy in Cuba even managed to produce some that actually gave enough milk to feed his family, which is surprising not just that they can give that much milk but that some guy in Cuba is the one who did it. I hear "Cuba" and I think cigars and crushing poverty, not genetic advancements.

This is a picture of one that I got off this website right here. It's supposed to show how small the cow is standing next to a toy truck, I know, but with no frame of reference I'm really not sure that I'm not looking at an enormous cow standing next to an actual truck.

I'm not sure how I feel about mini cows and what it means to the future of our planet and our culture. So now they have little horses and little cows, I'm sure it's not long before we have midget rodeos. Or just use mini cattle as practice for kids who want to be cowboys. And most of all, I know that all of this is just bringing us that much closer to the day when I go to a dinner party and someone offers me an entire cow on a toothpick. And for breakfast, Bowl O' Cows.

I've been reading up on mini cattle today, just because this is exactly what my life has come to, spending a free afternoon reading about tiny cows, but I still don't get how they did it. One site says that they used tiny cows from Africa and one site says they used genetic engineering, but none of it makes any sense to me.

I sure don't trust that genetic engineering, though. I just know something's going to go wrong and we'll wind up with millions of tiny cows infesting our homes and having to call special cow exterminators to get rid of them. Or cows that eat human flesh, or fly.

In your latest entry,  you said that there would soon be minature rodeos because of these cows and horses...did you look at the link that you used? the page has a link saying "why minature cows?" on the left side...one of their reasons is for kids rodeos!!
check it out

kid rodeos? thats one of the reasons why they make mini cows? i would never put my kid on a mini cow for a damn rodeo!

Maybe you can train them to work in a mini slaughterhouse.
