The Plain FAQ's of Life
on #50+retired (DALNet)
effective Jan. 1, 1997

Introduction:
#50+retired, on DalNet, is intended to be a friendly place to meet and chat with old friends, and to meet new people. Everyone is welcome on #50+retired. You do not have to be over 50! You do not have to be retired! The channel name simply signifies that mature adults are having friendly, civil conversation on a regular basis.
Unfortunately, on some networks that is difficult to do without having to bear the nuisance of channel takeovers, flood-outs, offensive language and a few other less than mentionable "maladies" that sometimes plague IRC. For these reasons, and in order to preserve a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, #50+retired on DalNet has been registered, and a limited number of "OPS" carefully selected to provide level-headed but firm control.
It's very easy to get along with others on #50+retired by simply observing the rules of common courtesy due every human being. It's often helpful to remember also that, as in real life, by being polite and keeping your sense of humor you will almost never run into trouble with others.
Rules of Operation:
The "rules" are few and simple on #50+retired. Please observe them all:
1) Profanity, Vulgarity, Flirting (that leads to sexually suggestive undertones) and Sexually Suggestive Language in general is not welcome on #50+retired. This includes any language intended to offend or shock others. Channel OPs run a script that will, in general, warn you once for the use of common vulgarities. After that, however offenders will be kicked and/or banned. BE FOREWARNED: use of certain words, even once, may result in immediate and/or permanent ban from the channel. Permanent bans are exactly that - PERMANENT and can only be removed by AC5C_Okla. AC5C_Okla's decisions regarding bans are final and take priority over any other OP decision.
2) Topics of conversation on #50+retired vary widely, and there are often several conversational "threads" going on at once. This can get quite confusing, so if your discussion or comment is not intended for everyone, please consider a "side conversation" on DCC chat. If an OP requests that you "drop" a topic, or take a conversation to a side window, please do so immediately.
3) You are welcome to run your server or other scripts in the channel with a few exceptions:
a. Only OPs may run regular, timed announcements. "Advertising" is not allowed. If you wish to make an announcement, please make it manually or with a "popup;" DO NOT set an announcement to run on a repeating timer.
b. DO NOT run automatic responses with the same names or trigger characters as those being used by the channel OPs (which appear on the OP's announcements). Doing so will get you immediately banned from the channel. You may run most any other "server" or automatic response, so long as it doesn't interfere with normal channel operation.
c. Graphics and other cute displays are fine... up to a point. Please try to avoid "cluttering" the channel with too much "stuff." Not everyone may enjoy it as much as you do, and it's hard to hold a "conversation" around large, or continuous, graphics or lengthy announcements.
4) Do not ask in the channel window for personal information from others. There are often visiting "strangers" on the channel and personal information should not be bandied about freely. For detailed information of other channel users, it's more secure to either open a DCC chat window or visit the "Channel Users" section of the #50+retired webpage.
5) If you are receiving unwelcome DCC, MSG, or other "private" requests for personal information while on #50+retired, please inform one of the OPs immediately for information on how to "ignore" such things.
***Note: the OPs will NOT necessarily or automatically kick or ban others who are offending you.***
6) Try not to be "sensitive" or easily offended. Written communication is easily misunderstood without tone of voice, facial expressions or physical gestures to help in communication. Sarcasm (like irony) is almost always misunderstood in written communication, so please be careful when teasing others. Unless you know someone VERY WELL, please be careful of what you say and pay particular attention to how you've said it. Your good name and reputation are right at your fingertips!
A Word About OPs:
The OPS on 50+retired all volunteer their time and abilities to contribute to making the channel a secure and pleasant place to chat. There is no prestige or special status to being an OP; each OP on #50+retired has specific responsibilities and is expected to perform them. OPs must also agree to give their own conversation second place to the needs and requests of others and proper operation of the channel.
The OPs on #50+retired must have a good working knowledge of mIRC and/or PIRCH, be familiar the workings of IRC and IRC servers, and must have installed, and know how to operate, IRC channel protection and security including scripting. The protection scripts in use by channel OPs are custom written and are not available for download. In addition, OPs must agree to assist in providing the channel with information and assistance, including maintaining scripts, help files and other channel features. OPs are to remain as "invisible" as possible at all times.
>>>>ALL OPS ARE CHOSEN BY INVITATION ONLY.<<<< The OPs are required to refuse requests by others to be given OP status, or to be put on the auto-op list. Repeated requests to be made an OP can get you banned from the channel.
