When Mrs. Eddy founded Christian Science, it was important to her that this religion be based entirely upon God's Word and the teachings of the Bible. "All Truth is from inspiration and revelation, — from Spirit, not from flesh," from Unity of Good, pg. 45, by Mrs. Eddy. Hence the reason for instituting an impersonal pastor, who could not influence or adulterate the meaning of God's message for His children.
A First and Second Reader are elected to a limited term by the congregration to read aloud from these two books at Sunday and Wednesday services.
