Every fisherman wants to improve his catch rate. We read every article we can find and try every new method that comes along.
In our quest to find the ultimate lure or presentation we sometimes forget the basics. As a result we tend to lose sight of the fundamentals of fishing.
Hopefully some of these tips will start us thinking and using what we already know.
In a recent conversation with an old friend, we were discussing the use of tube jigs. I've had tube jigs for as long as they have been on the market but I never used them. The reason being, was the lack of confidence.
I would tie one on, make a couple of half-hearted casts, and just as quickly, I would put it down in favor of a different lure that I knew I could catch fish with.
Ask any fisherman why he always goes back to the same lure and he will tell you that it's his favorite. It's his favorite because he knows that he can catch fish with that lure. And that's confidence!
Confidence is probably the single most important tool that you have. If you don't have confidence in your lures or your presentation, the chances are you won't fish the lure the way it was meant to be fished.
