What is it?
NetPOPUP is an easy to use real time communication tool for TCP/IP based networks. It uses peer to peer communication instead of the typical Client/Server based store and forward methods currently used in applications such as E-Mails. It was conceived after experiencing the limitations of Microsoft’s WinPOPUP utility on our hostel LAN. WinPOPUP had the nasty habit of crashing the whole Windows environment (being a 16 bit application) when it could not successfully locate a host on the LAN or if there was some sort of an error during transmission (which was very often since our LAN was holding up on scotch tape and chewing gum!). It had another serious limitation of not showing whether the message was actually delivered to the remote host (no acknowledgement). These and other shortcomings prompted one of my friends to bug me into making a better utility. So NetPOPUP was born more out of necessity then as an off the record project.

Who is it for?
Anyone who works on LANs (Local Area Networks), which is just about everyone these days, would have an immediate benefit in productivity by using this program. Can be used to rapidly communicate messages to other users. Faster then email because no intermediate store and forward servers involved. Use it in:

  • Computer Labs.
  • Networked Dorm rooms.
  • Work places.
  • Anywhere where there is a bunch of wired up computers.

I've heard this name before!
Yes you have, there is another similar program out with the same name by another author, but then I had the program out two years ago, just that i never bothered releasing it on the internet. We just used it on our campus and in our dorms... so i am not bothering to change the name. Call it Techno's Popup for all i care.

Whats it cost?
NOTHING! Its FREEEEE! enjoy!
