MY DAD

This is the page I will devote to the memory of my beloved Dad. I will put up a few pictures on the following pages and take you through a part of his life...it was NOT an easy life; although he never complained.

Dad was born on June 18, 1922 as Clancy Edward Thompson...he was the forth of seven children born to his parents. His father died when he was about four years old and his Mother re-married; after which she had three more children.

When Dad was still quite young...maybe about 7 or 8 ...the facts are not all clear....his Mother died of a massive stroke and his step-father was not able to take care of all the kids so his oldest sister..who had just married took in all her brothers and her sister and raised them the best she could.

He was not able to go to school, because there was no money for shoes and clothing to send him and he had to help the best he could around the house.

He joined the Army at the time of World War II and was sent to Australia to serve most of his time and then he met Mom upon coming home and they were married very soon thereafter.

He had no training except for what he had learned from life and in the Army so he got a job in the coal mines. His oldest brother was killed in these mines...as was later his 3rd brother injured for life.

Dad was also injured...he received a broken back just when my brother was a little baby learning to walk... and he suffered pain from this the rest of his life; although he did recover enough to be able to go back to work in the mines..a lesser man would have given up many times. Not Dad... he had a family to support and this is what he did.

I will tell a little more about this remarkable man on the following pages where I have more of his photos. Dad has been gone from us now for three years and I still miss him every day.

The music playing in the background was always one of my Dad's favorite tunes "Nobody's Darling But Mine"..My Mom played guitar and I sang and harmonized with her from a very early age and he would usually request to hear this song.

As he got older her enjoyed watching the birds and feeding them and fixing houses for bluebirds and that is the reason for the border I chose for his page.
