FOR MOM

This is to be my dedication page to my Mother whose mind and memory was taken from me and my family two years ago this past Thanksgiving. Since this time she has not recognized me or any member of the family and has forgotten some of the most basic functions.

Mom was born Audrey Mae Whittaker on May 9,1929..the third of seven living children and two others who did not survive childhood. Six girls and one boy.

Her father was a coal-miner who worked long hours just to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table.

She married at the age of 17 to my Father, Clancy Edward Thompson, with whom she fell in love at first sight. Dad was also a coal-miner and the same struggle was there for him; although there was only two kids born to them...me, Florence Carol, and my brother..Clancy Roy Thompson.

I will tell you more about my Dad in his own page but will just say for now that he was a fine man and the best Father ever.

Mom was always there for me... and for everyone else in the family as well..she was a highly intelligent woman who also posessed a huge amount of common horse sense and in the last several years before this tragic occurance.. was my best friend....this place has blessedly been taken by my own daughter.

I am not going into the whole gory details of the things that I think led to this stroke... only to say that in a six month period of time she lost both her Mother and her husband to death and her only son was involved in a near-fatal car accident; which did prove fatal to her brother-in-law...and left her son disabled for life. Doctors would not give ANY chance at all of his survival.

This all proved too much for her to deal with at once. I truley believe she willed herself to leave and be with Dad and the stroke was brought on by constant worry over things not under her control.

The last cognitive words I heard my Mother speak were; "I love you too, Carol." As I kissed her good-bye that last day.

The following photos are of my Mom from baby-hood up to middle age and the photo at the top of the page is as she was just months before the stroke that destroyed her brain so completely.

The background music is because I hope that as she no longer knows me in this life...she will again in the next.

I miss her more than I can say ....I think now that no matter how old a child is ..it still needs its Mother.
