Carol's beaming face bearing gloriously glittered glasses under her happy herring head was on the front page of the Anchorage
Daily News, February 4, 2002. There were about 33 of us herrings, captured in gill nets with "cork" floats around
our necks. A juvenile or two was swimming free.

THE HERRING SONG (to the tune of "When You're Smiling")
When you're herring, when you're herring,
The whole world spawns with you.
When you're Clupea, when you're pallasi,
The sun comes shining through.
But when you're belugas*
You bring on the rain
So stop your whaling
Be happy again!
Keep on herring, cause when you're herring,
The whole world spawns with you (you better believe it)
THE WHOLE WORLD SPAWNS WITH YOUUUUUUUUUU!
