Back in 1995, Kelloggs Frosted Mini Wheats offered a free cassette of music performed by Polaris, the band who plays the theme song, and other tunes on Nickelodeon's The Adventures of Pete & Pete. The tape was free. Well, it was free with two UPC seals. And Frosted Mini Wheats is not the lowest-cost cereal on the market. So, when you figure it out, the tape was about $6.00 - but, I feel, it was worth it.

Friends and neighbors pitched in and helped me get all seals I needed. I wanted to get three of these tapes. One for me, one for a neighbor, and one for my friend Matt. Hi Matt. I'm talking about you right now! Don't worry, one day, I'll redo the Joshua Tree picture and put it out here for all to see. But, I'm straying from the topic.

Lyrics

An important note on the lyrics to Hey Sandy:

I know that the line is don't you talk back. But, I'm going to leave my first impressions here regardless. Besides, it does seem to fit in with what I thought were the lyrics in the second verse, i.e. "species".

(Introduction, read by Older Pete)

Hi, I'm Pete and the band you're about to hear is Polaris. They're three guys: Jersey, Muggy and Harris, who came out of nowhere, disappeared without a trace and left behind music that'll stear you clear of danger. So put on some unmatched socks, wipe the crude out of your eyeballs and give a warm welcome to Polaris.

Hey Sandy

Hey smiling strange,
You're looking happily deranged,
Can you sale the shim-ba?
Or have you picked your dog out yet?

Hey Sandy! (I, Y-Ie, Y-Ie, Y-Ie)
Does your dog bite? (I, Y-Ie, Y-Ie, Y-Ie)
Hey Sandy?

Barking away,
End of species is the end of the day.
We was only funning.
But guilty, I thought she had it coming.

Hey Sandy! (I, Y-Ie, Y-Ie, Y-Ie)
Does your dog bite? (I, Y-Ie, Y-Ie, Y-Ie)
Hey Sandy?

(Calypso guitar)

(Jamming gutiar)

(I, Y-Ie, Y-Ie, Y-Ie) Hey Sandy!
Does your dog bite? (I, Y-Ie, Y-Ie, Y-Ie)
Hey Sandy?

(I, Y-Ie, Y-Ie, Y-Ie) Hey Sandy!
Does your dog bite? (I, Y-Ie, Y-Ie, Y-Ie)
Hey Sandy? Hey!

(Calypso guitar)

Staggering

Are you crazy man,
You didn't notice her?
Well you must be blind.

'Cause all I do now,
Is think about how,
She will be mine.

I couldn't stand up,
I couldn't sit down,
One look at her and I stumble around.

One look at her, I get irrational,
Well she ties my tongue.
I saw her downtown on a cloudy day,
And she brought the sun.

She's not a part of the scene,
She don't socialize,
She does her own thing.

She's ahead of her time,
Just the right speed.
She is staggering.

I couldn't stand up,
I couldn't sit down,
One look at her and I stumble around.

She is staggering.
She is staggering.

She's uncommonly heavenly,
She is so rare,
She's beautiful, exceptional,
But, she doesn't care.

And I couldn't stand up,
I couldn't sit down,
One look at her and I stumble around.

I couldn't get to sleep,
And I couldn't eat.
She's all that I want
She is all that I need.

She is staggering.
She is staggering.
She is staggering.
She is staggering.

Coronado II

It's kind of a low blow.
Not the one I got,
But the one you give.

It's really too soon to know
How much of you will there be left for me to save.

(Oww)
He's a scallywag.
I have another friend,
That he did the same thing too
And then he brags.
And he'll kiss and tell me, kiss and tell me,
Everytime you do.

Monte Carlo (Oww)
Coronado II (Oww)
The San Diego Zoo (Oww)
Or a hundred nights with you won't change my mind. (Oww)

You gotta shine, shine me. Gotta shine.
Shine with me.
(Et cetera)

Well you rang,
And she called early.
And you were laughing
And she was asking
Can we still be friends?
And you laugh to think some times at the memory.

It's your never, never land,
Where the stories never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever end

And Monte Carlo (Oww)
Coronado II (Oww)
The San Diego Zoo (Oww)
Or a hundred nights with you won't change my mind. (Oww)

(Oww)
(Oww)
(Oww)
(Oww)
(Oww)
(Oww)

And Monte Carlo (Oww)
Coronado II (Oww)
The San Diego Zoo (Oww)
Or a hundred nights with you won't change my mind. (Oww)

Won't change my mind. (Oww)
Won't change my mind. (Oww)

Thanks alot for listening. Remember: everytime you pop in this tape, always point yourself in the direction of these three songs and I guarantee, you'll never get lost.
