Joseph was married to Alice Oxton, date and location of marriage not known, they had six children that we are aware of. Joseph died 8 April 1839. In 1861 Alice was living at Noctorum Nook with her children John and Martha and grandson Joseph.

Children of Joseph Jones and Alice Oxton:-

JONES, John Oxton. Born circa 1811 in Oxton, Birkenhead. On the 1841 census John's name is given only as John Oxton, this could be an enumerator error or John adopted his mother's married name of Jones sometime between 1841 and 1851 as John's surname is given as Jones on the 1851 census. John was not married at the time of either 1851 or 1861 census' but we do know he had one child that we are aware of and possibly a second but this is still a bit of a mystery.

JONES, Joseph. Born circa 1819 in Oxton, Birkenhead and baptised 6 June 1819 at Holy Cross Church, Woodchurch. Joseph married Teresa Nevill 9 September 1838 at St. Nicholas Church, Liverpool. Curate John Cheetham and the witnesses were James Haywood and Martha Upton (possibly Joseph's sister). On the marriage certificate both have their ages given as "Minor" and their residences as "Vernon Street". Joseph was a labourer of Pinns Cottages, Bidston Road, Oxton on the 1851 census. On the 1861 census the address given is No.42 E-Block, Dock Cottages, Birkenhead. The 1871 census has their address as Halewood Cottages on Oxton Common. By the time of the 1881 census they are shown as living at 1 Heatherside, Bidston Road, Oxton. Teresa was born circa 1820 in Liverpool and was the daughter of James Nevill, a brass founder (wife's name not known). We believe Teresa's name was actually Geresior and that it was a misspelling on the census and marriage certificate by the English that caused the name change. Joseph and Teresa had fourteen children that we are aware of. Joseph died 16 March 1884 and is buried at Holy Cross Church, Woodchurch.

JONES, Alice. Born circa 1822 in Oxton, Birkenhead and baptised 24 March 1822 at Holy Cross Church, Woodchurch.

We know that Martha married a Mr. Thompson, a widower with a son George who was born circa 1863. Mr. Thompson died before the time of the 1871 census. After her sister-in-law Lydia died in 1865, Martha took in her brother Thomas and his three children, Martha was already caring for her other nephew Joseph. We know that in 1868 Martha was living at 90 Oxton Road, Birkenhead and her mother died there 7 April 1868. By 1871 Martha, her brother Thomas and his three children, her other nephew Joseph, her niece Alice Ann and her stepson George were living at 11 Moss Street, Oxton Village. By 1881 Martha, Thomas, two nephews, both named Joseph, and niece Alice Ann were living at 8 Tranmere Vale Terrace, Birkenhead.

Thomas and Lydia had three children that we are aware of. Lydia died 18 August 1865 in Woodchurch. Thomas died 3 June 1882 in Oxton, Birkenhead. Thomas and Lydia are buried together in Holy Cross Churchyard.

Children of John Oxton Jones and and his partner:-

JONES, William Oxton. Born circa 1837 in Oxton, Birkenhead. On the 1841 census William's name is given only as William Oxton, this could be an enumerator error or William's father John adopted his mother's married name of Jones sometime between 1841 and 1851 as William's surname is given as Jones on the 1851 census as was his father's.

JONES, Joseph. Born circa 1846 in Oxton, Birkenhead. Joseph was an agricultural labourer. We believe Joseph was the son of John and his partner but it is a bit of a mystery at this stage.

JONES, John. Born circa 1844 in Oxton, Birkenhead and baptised 12 May 1844 at Holy Cross Church, Woodchurch. John was a quarryman and was married to Sarah (surname unknown) who was born in Wales circa 1839, they had two children that we are aware of.

JONES, James. Born circa 1847 in Oxton, Birkenhead. James was a dock labourer and was married to *Ann Clark (Annie), who was born circa 1849 in Wyton, Huntingdonshire. James and Ann were married 28 August 1869 at St. Nicholas Church, Liverpool. At the time of the 1871 census James and his family were living at No.8 D-Block, Dock Cottages, Birkenhead. In 1873 they had moved to Back Myrtle Street and then in 1876 they were at 18 Livingston Street before living at 42 Frederick Street in 1880. On the 1881 census the family were living at 449 Brooke Street where they lived until about 1884 before living at 392 Brooke Street from about 1884 until 1892. James died 5 August 1893 and Ann died 15 September 1931. James and Ann are buried together in section 11 (713) Flaybrick Hill Cemetery, Birkenhead. James and Annie had twelve children that we are aware of.

* Ann Clark was the daughter of George Clark, born circa 1809 in Hartford, Huntingdonshire, and his wife Elizabeth, born circa 1816 in Kings Ripton, Huntingdonshire. George and Elizabeth had one other child that we are aware of, a son called George, born circa 1843 in Godmanchester, Huntingdonshire. At the time of the 1861 census the family were living in London Road, Godmanchester, Huntingdonshire.

JONES, George. Born circa 1848 in Oxton, Birkenhead. We know nothing of George's first wife but we do know he was a widower living in Back Beckwith Street when he married Mary Caroline Roberts (spinster) 27 July 1880 at St. Mary's Church, Birkenhead, witnesses:- H. Williams and Frances Jones. Mary was the daughter of John Roberts, wife's name not known, John was a wheelwright. George and Mary had eight children that we are aware of. After William Henry died in 1941, Frances went to live with her daughter Theresa and grandson Francis Neville Fallows at 33 Chadwick Street, Marple, Cheshire, until her death. On the 1881 census of Oxton there is a Thomas Jones living at Davies Stables, Shrewsbury Road, his age is given as 24, he is unmarried, born in Oxton and is working as a cab driver, we are trying to find further information to see if this is our Thomas.
