Mama Kate is an 11-year-old American Saddlebred mare rescued by Jeff and Andie in December, 2003. She was
saved by Kuitan Equine Rescues in Stanwood, WA., in May, 2003, from a farm where 17 out of 20 horses there died of starvation
and neglect. The only survivors were Kate, her foal utero, and her half brother, Little John. When Kate's foal was born, she
was a billiant coppery-red, so much like her.
She is very happy now to live with "Auntie Liz", and has made this her home since July, 2004.
Kate is an exceptional horse, a true survivor, and she is extremely intelligent and athletic.
Out of 60 horses entered, She and Jeff won 3rd place in their first 25-mile endurance race in Othello, WA., in April,
2005. She was the largest horse there!
She loves a trail ride, loves helping Auntie Liz weed the garden, and when Liz lets her in the
back yard, the two of them are "pasture mates". She enjoys spending time with people, and in view of her past years
of neglect, she is very trusting in the human race.
Kate has a pal named Tino, who is much bigger than she is; he is stabled elsewhere, but comes visiting on certain
weekends so he can run and exercise, visit neighboring horses over the fences, and generally just "be a horse" for a couple
days.
Be sure to come back later and read more about "Katie", as we call her, and perhaps see a new photo of her and one of
Tino, and maybe read a bit about him as well....
