On A sad note; we salute and bid adieu to our fallen classmates;

- may the sun always be upon their face & the wind at their back as they will always be in our hearts and thoughts - it was our good fortune to have known ya: Have a safe journey:

So many things have happened
Since they were called away.

So many things to share with them
Had they been left to stay.

And now on this reunion day,
Memories do come our way,

Though absent, they are ever near,
Still missed, remembered, always dear

The Infamous Table #1 at Lunch Time
wjonesb69.jpg

Phil Feinzeig sent along a note that he fondly recalls of Walter;   want to particularly thank you for keeping up the sad, but important, task of updating the Memoriam Page. I only found about the recent passing of Walter from your site. He and I had a very nice friendship that could often be comical with our height difference. You can picture when he played intramural basketball at DMHS and I was the referee and called a foul on him. The other ref would often be Larrry Bilzerian. Quite a cast we were! With a broad grin on his face, Walter would lift me into the air as I chattered at him to put me down or he would get a technical foul. He was a wonderful athlete, a people person,  a leader (as you noted online) to have become President of the Class at that time in history and most importantly, as others have noted, a kind soul. I called and spoke with his sister Janice yesterday to express my condolences and exchange some funny stories from "the day". She also went To DMHS but was a year ahead of us. Then she surprised me by telling me seven years she married the old running back, wayne storms!

    The Dash

I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
    From the beginning...to the end.

He noted that first came her date of birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years (1951-1998)

For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth...
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.

    For it matters not, how much we own;
    The cars...the house...the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard...
Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
    That can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
To consider what's true and real,
    And always try to understand
    The way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger,
    And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
    Like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile.
    Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.

So, when you're eulogy is being read
With your life's actions to rehash...
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?

Walter was a nice guy and I had him for mechanical drawing.  I could never draw that dang square!  But nonetheless, we wish him a safe and good journey!

    Dick Donohue 1997

ed. Note: My fondest memories of Dick was in Law Class. He had a positive impact on many students.

There jobs were to teach - no matter how difficult we made it for them. While they may no longer be with us - everyone of us knows that they are the ones who not only made our days most interesting but also provided us with many of the values that governed us today.

The Richard P. Donohue Memorial Scholarship Fund is the communitys way of keeping Dicks concern for young people alive. This fund was set up to aid a Doherty Memorial High School senior, who has overcome a personal hardship, with college expenses.

Mr. Donohue was a vice-principal at Doherty Memorial High School and one of the three remaining members of the original 1966 faculty when he died suddenly of a heart attack in 1998. He coached track at Doherty and later at St. Johns High in Shrewsbury. He was a mentor for all students and he cared deeply about the character of his students.

He maintained a positive outlook on life. A typical school day would begin with his booming voice:   "Its going to be a great day!"

-- Mrs. Olga Stubbe (89) recently passed away (10/27/01). Mrs. Stubbe was the typing teacher at Doherty. If not for that skill, I may never have excavated myself from fox holes. Contributions can be sent to Abby's House - 52 High St. Worcester Mass. 01609.

-- Just learned of John "Jack" Whalen - Social Studies & Coach. (ed.note some of our heads are still ringing from missing those tackles) and from Charlie Horan: That's a great memory of Coach Whalen. Raffe Yagjian and I remember most the time he made us run up and down the hill behind the locker room because we had skipped school one day to play golf at Green Hill.
