7/07/01 - Steve Mason; After high school I went on to Bates College in Lewiston, Me. An interest in getting out of Lewiston,
Me helped me get to the Hebrew University in Jerusalem for my junior year in college. After college, I wanted to study religion
and Judaic studies -- rabbinical school provided a good way to do that. Along the way to pursuing those interests I found
something that continues to be a remarkably gratifying and challenging career. So, after Bates I entered Hebrew Union College-Jewish
Institute of Religion (another year of study in Jerusalem and then four more in NYC). In Jerusalem I met Patty Goldstein
of Nashville, TN -she was there studying Jewish education. We were married in 9/74 in Nashville. After my ordination we moved
to Washington, DC where I was an assistant rabbi and then we spent 14 great years in Buffalo. I became Senior Rabbi of North
Shore Congregation Israel in Glencoe, IL (north of Chicago) in 7/97. Along the way, I received a Doctorate in Pastoral Care
and Pastoral Counseling at Hebrew Union College and even coauthored a book. But most importantly: Our first born, Michael
will be 23 in July. He graduated from Hobart and William Smith Colleges and Currently works for Big Brother Big Sister of
western New York in Buffalo and will soon join the staff of a new private school in Greensboro, NC. Our daughter Sara will
soon be 20 and will be a junior at Brandeis in the fall. Danny, who turns 13 next month, keeps us young.
