MADELINE WAS ADOPTED NOVEMBER 17, 2002!
Madeline gets on board the Canine Underground Railroad, a network of volunteers transporting homeless shelter dogs to rescues throughout the country.  At a hand-off meeting place in New Jersey, Madeline joins two dogs coming from South Carolina to hitch a ride to meet up with her new home in Massachusetts!

UPDATE 11/23/2002:
Everything is going great.  Madeline is eating and drinking like a trooper.  We took her to the vet for her eye and she said it was conjunctivitis and gave her an antibiotic.  (Madeline had woken up with a goopy eye the morning of her trip to her new home.)  Our Pekingese is in love and our other cat doesn't care.  Madeline has stolen our hearts.  She is the sweetest little kittie.  We will send pictures soon.

MADELINE'S STORY:
Someone who was breeding Persians and Himalayans (and not caring for them properly) decided to give it up, under duress from the landlord. Usually, we frown upon landlords not allowing pets but in this case, it was absolutely the right thing to do. It is people like this tenant who make it hard for resopnsible pet owners to rent with pets and that in itself is a crime. These poor kitties needed a reprieve from their futures as brood mares. To seal our promise to them that they will be family pets and not breeders, the cats will not be released for adoption until they are spayed. We will accept applications in the meantime. Spay appointments are scheduled for 11/14 and 11/26. It really is not possible to write individual descriptions on these cats. Some are under a year old and others are from one to 6 years old. But their personalities are so similar, we can describe them all in one fell swoop. Suffice it to say, they are the most docile, well-behaved and mellow cats we have ever handled. Just think of what they went through on their way to foster care. First they were stuffed into carriers and removed from the unsanitary conditions they had been living in. Because they were infested with fleas, the were given medication to kill the fleas and placed in a garage for 4 hours to allow the fleas to die. Then, one by one, they were brought inside, given manicures, were bathed, had their ears and eyes cleaned, had blood drawn, were given vaccinations and dewormed. Then they were placed into kitty condos with blow dryers going at full speed. Not once did a single cat try to bite or scratch us. They did not fight us at all during their baths. We were impressed beyond words. So pardon the pictures if some of the girls look a little dopey - they had been through so much in the preceeding hours.

Thankfully, all of the girls were AIDS and Leukemia negative. They lived with dogs and sure enough, when the dogs in the foster home came to check them out, they were completely unfazed. Not a single one so much as batted an eye over the canine examinations. And, obviously, they all lived together so they get along well with other cats. You need not have a particular cat in mind when applying. Approved applicants will be invited to meet all of the available cats to make a decision.
