In Final Fantasy VII you play Cloud Strife, the hero and main character. Starting weak and unexperienced you'll slowly build up strength as you try to stop Shinra from destroying the planet. You're not alone though. You get help from 8 other charaters which each has there own background and hate for Shinra.
During the game, you can only play with 3 characters in a battle. So you have to choose which character is best suited for each part. Click on the name to get a full coverage of that character.
Limit Breaks
The limit break is a special type of attack. You can only perform this move when your limit bar is full. Your limit bar slowly fills itself when you get hit. The more damage you receive with one attack, the faster the bar fills itself. Each character has a variety of limit breaks. Click on the "Limit Breaks" at the top for more information about limit breaks. If you want information about a specific character limit break, click on the desired name on the right.
PHS
When you leave Midgar on disc 1, you'll get a key item called "PHS". This item allows you to switch teammembers. You can use this anywhere on the worldmap.
Getting Yuffie Kisaragi
When you ventured through the Mythril mines and heading for Junon, you have chance to encounter a mysterious ninja girl in the forests. (Its also possible to get her after Junon). When you beat her, you'll see that you can talk to her. First of all, do not use the savepoint you see at your left. The girl will steal some Gil and run away. Instead talk to her and answer to her questions with these lines:
  • "Not Interested" - then
  • "Petrified" - then
  • "Wait a second!" - then
  • "That's right" - and finally
  • "Let's hurry".
If you done it correctly, you can name her. Yuffie now joined your team.
Getting Vincent Valentine
When you reach Cloud's hometown of Nibelheim, you can get Vincent Valentine to join your party. First you must find him.
Go to the Shinra mansion and open the safe on the first floor. The combination is: 36-10-59-97. Use the code like this: turn to the righ until it stands on 36. Press the confirm button. Then turn to the left until it stands on 10. Press the confirm button.
Then turn right to 59 and do the same with 97. When you've done it correctly the safe will open. Remember that you don't go over the numbers or you will fail. Ignore the 20 second time limit because that only makes you nervous.
Once the safe is open, a boss immediately attacks you. Defeat him and you'll see a key in the safe. Pick it up and use it on the door in the basement. Open the closed coffin and talk to Vincent. Tell him everything you know and keep talking to him until he says: "Let me sleep". Now leave the basement and Vincent will join you.

Battle Tips

Setting speed

Remember that you can always adjust the speed of the battles. Go to the menu screen and select "Config". You can also select the order of materia use.

Pre-emptive Attacks

Sometimes, the enemies start behind your back. To quickly turn and lower their attacks press and hold the L and R buttons for a fraction of a second. Then let go. The characters will start running, but quickly turn around to face the enemy. Use the "9 and 3 key for PC version.

The Battle Arena

In the Gold Saucer is the Battle Arena. Here you can fight to earn Battle points. These points can be exchanged for good prizes. To fight, simply talk to the lady at the counter and pay 10 Gp to enroll. You'll have to face 8 enemies alone. If you win, you'll get Battle points. But after each round you'll get handicaps which make it harder to fight.

Item Duplication
There are a lot of Items in Final Fantasy VII. But you can also get 99 of each. here's the trick. First of all, you'll need the W-Item materia. When you're in battle select the W-Item and choose the item you wish to duplicate. Then select a character. When the cursor returns to the item window for the second item again, select the same item but do not select the character. Cancel the item use. Repeat this and you'll get 99 of that item.
