From the very beginning God had said that the wages of sin is death but, while the Hebrews were in the wilderness, God gave them a way to worship Him and have their sins forgiven.
God showed Moses the plan for a place to sacrifice animals for the sins of the people. The priests, those who minister to God on behalf of the people and minister to the people on behalf of God, were given the responsibility for conducting the sacrifices of atonement.
Only the high priest could enter the place where God would dwell, and he could enter only once a year with the blood of an animal. God would accept this blood in place of the lives of the people who had sinned. Aaron, the brother of Moses, was the first high priest and his descendents became high priests after him.
Jesus has become our High Priest as well as our sacrifice. He sacrificed Himself upon the alter of the cross and took His own blood to the Father for our sins.

Prayer: Dear Father, thank You that You were willing to send Jesus to be our sacrifice and that His blood has paid the price for our sins so that we may have fellowship with You.
