JOSEPH

Saw

December 22
Read: Matthew 1: 18-25
Symbol: Saw

Joseph was a carpenter, a man of the family of David. He was a man of great faith. God chose him to be the earthly father of Jesus because he trusted God.
That Joseph was a kind and merciful man is shown by the way that he decided to break his betrothal to Mary when he learned that she was pregnant. He could have publicly exposed her, but decided to settle the matter privately. He then believed the angel who told him to go ahead with his marriage to Mary.
God used Joseph to care for and protect Mary and Jesus. When Jesus' life was in danger, an angel told Joseph to take them to Egypt. Joseph obeyed immediately and Jesus was protected from Herod. Later an angel revealed to Joseph that it was safe to return.
Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man as he was trained in the scriptures and in the carpenter's trade. (Luke 2:52.)

Prayer: Thank You, Father that You give us earthly parents to teach us and train us in Your ways. Amen.

1:18
Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was
found with child of the Holy Ghost.
1:19
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.
1:20
But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear
not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
1:21
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
1:22
Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
1:23
Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God
with us.
1:24
Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
1:25
And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
