Student Objectives: Insert a comment in the worksheet.; Apply conditional formatting.; Paint formats from one part of the worksheet to another.; Sort data in a worksheet.; Name a range of data.; Insert a picture in a worksheet.

What are cell comments?
1) It is a message that explains or identifies information contained in the cell. 
2) Red triangles appear in the corner of the cell to indicate that a comment is in the cell.
3) How do I do it?  Choose Insert, Comment and to edit the comment, Choose Insert, Edit Comment. **Note: One can view all the comments at once by choosing Comments from the View menu.

What is the Autofilter?
1) AutoFilter displays a subset of the data in a worksheet that meets certain criteria.  Filtering will temporarily hide rows that do not meet the criteria you describe.
2) How do I do it?  Choose Data, Filter, then AutoFilter.

How do I hide rows or columns?
1) Hiding temporarily removes rows or columns from the screen.
2) How do I do it?:  Choose Format, Row or Column, then Hide.

What is conditional formatting?
1) It applies a font, border, or pattern to a cell when certain conditions exist in that cell.
2) An example would be to shade and put a border around a cell IF a student has a grade of 69 and below.
3) How do I do it?  Choose Format, Conditional Formatting.

How is format painting or copy formatting in Excel performed?
1) Format painting allows you to copy the format of a worksheet cell without copying the contents of that cell. (Ex. Copying the bolding and underlining of a cell without copying the numbers within the cell)
2) How do I do it?  Highlight the cell, choose the Format Painter icon, then highlight the cell or range of cells that you would like to format.

How is data sorted in Excel?
1) Sorting will reorganize data to place it in an order that is more meaningful.
2) Ascending order is (A to Z); while Descending order is (Z to A).
3) Excel sorts data in alphabetic order, and data with numbers from lowest to highest.
4) How do I do it? Choose Data, Sort. (Note: In order to make sure that Excel doesn't include the header column label in the sort, click the Header row option in the dialog box)

What is naming a range, and how is it performed?
1) Ranges may be referred to by a word instead of cell addresses. (For example, a range B4:D13 may be named "expenses" instead of just the cell references).
2) When using ranges in formulas, one could say
=SUM(expenses).
3)  How do I do it? Select the range, then enter a name in the Name box (located to the left of the formula bar).

How is data linked between worksheets in a workbook?
1) To use data from one worksheet in another worksheet of a workbook, select the destination cell, then enter a equals sign (=).  Next, click the sheet tab (at the bottom of the workbook) that contains the source data you would like to link, select the cell or range of cells, ad press Enter.
2) The data will be linked to the destination sheet so that any changes to the source data will also change the value in the destination cell.

How are worksheets inserted and deleted?
1) To insert a worksheet:  Click the tab of the worksheet that will follow new sheet, then choose Insert Worksheet.
2) To delete a worksheet:  Click any cell in the worksheet and then choose Edit, Delete Sheet.
3) Note: You can also rename a sheet, insert, or delete a sheet by using the shortcut menu.

What is the purpose of inserting a picture in a worksheet, and how is it done?
1) Pictures change the appearance of a worksheet, and corporations use them to include their company logo on the worksheet.
2) How do I do it? From the Clipart Gallery: Choose Insert, Picture, Clipart.  From a separate file:  Choose Insert, Picture, From File.
3) Note: One can edit the picture by choosing the Edit options on the Picture toolbar.  If you don't see the Picture toolbar, choose View, Toolbars, Picture or right-click on the picture.

How can hyperlinks be used in Excel?
1) Remember, hyperlinks "jump" to other files on your computer or disk OR they "jump" to  Web pages on the Internet.
2) How do I do it?  Select either the text or graphic, then right-click and choose Hyperlink (short-cut menu).  Next, type either the filename or web page address (URL).  Note: The mouse pointer will turn to a hand when it is passed over the linked item.
