Weekly Aus-News Update # 2
Extra news I didn't have time to post yesterday...
- There was also a short David Duchovny article in NW last week.
- The Hobart 'paper The Sunday Tasmanian on July 15 had David Duchovny on the cover of its Entertainment liftout and an article inside plus a review of Evolution which was negative, giving it 2 stars.
- The Adelaide Advertiser on July 14 also had a negative review of Evolution, giving it just 1 star.
- There was a small colour photo of David Duchovny and Tea Leoni at the Jurassic Park 3 premiere in last Sunday's Brisbane Sunday Mail accompanied by the following:
Tea Shapes Up
Jurassic Park III star Tea Leoni says running from fake dinosurs did wonders for her figure.
"I was not in shape at the beginning of this movie, which was a really stupid move on my part,' said Leoni,35. "You know, it's like 'Duh, I should have known that was coming. Let's see, Tea, you're doing a huge movie with dinosaurs and probably, you know, you're not going to be friends with them, and you're probably going to be runing, so, like, come on, you lug'."
The T-Rex gave her a run for her money.
"I was sore, and then I actually got in shape. I mean, that's the weirdest thing. This movie got me in shape."
- Also in last week's Who Weekly there is a photo of Tea Leoni accompanied by the following paragraph:
Tea Leoni needed no preparation to play a mother hunting for her missing son in the dino sequel Jurassic Park III, opening Aug. 30. "They're naming my No.1 nightmare in this movie: what would happen if my child would go missing,"says Leoni, who has a daughter, Madelaine West, 2, with husband David Duchovny. "Of course, it's not likely my child would be off on an island with dinosaurs. I've thought more about,'What if I left her on top of the car at Starbuck's and drove off?'That's the fear." Leoni has another reason to stay close to her daughter. Madelaine doubles as Mums personal trainer. "I hate to work out," says Leoni, 35. "I like to play games. My daughter & I have the most intense games of hide & seek. Her counting is like,'1, 2,10!' You have to hightail it out of there. That works the glutes good."
- In overseas mags now available locally, the July 14 issue of the UK mag Now had 2 photos of Gillian Anderson while the July 24 issue of Hello also contains 2 Gillian Anderson photos. The June SFX magazine contains a 5 page Robert Patrick article while the next issue, due here in a just under a month's time, has Chris Carter and Gillian Anderson articles in it.
- The July 12 Adelaide Advertiser had the Evolution cast on the cover of its entertainment liftout.
ThanX Lucy.

Weekly Aus-News Update
- There is a photo of Gillian Anderson in this week's TV Week.
- There's also a photo of David Duchovny in NW and one of him and Tea Leoni in New Idea at the Jurassic Park III premiere in the US this week.
- There is a small paragraph on David Duchovny painting with his butt and raising $80,000 for charity in Woman's Day.
- For those students at UNSW in Sydney, this week's Blitz has Clare's article from the Evolution
press conference as well as a review of House of Mirth.
- From last Sunday's Sun Herald was a brief story about celebrity fantasies, including the fact that David Duchovny would like to play basketball in front of 30,000 people.
- Evolution, roundly savaged by critics across the nation, missed out on taking the no. 1 spot at the box office in it's first week of release, coming in at no. 2 behind Shrek. In week number two it fell a massive 36% to rank at number 3 behind Shrek and Bridget Jones's Diary. Evolution hasn't been a major success, taking just over $36M at the box office in it's first month worldwide compared to it's $80M budget.
- Spy Kids, a huge success in the US, featuring Robert Patrick was supposed to open last month but has been pushed back to September 20.
ThanX as usual, for most of the above news, to Lucy who makes my job easy by alerting me to all things X-File -- just wish I had more time to update my site but my little William comes first. ThanX also to Donna.
Deadalive
The long awaited release of Deadalive has been pushed back to September 5. It's available in the UK on August 6. As previously advised, the episodes will be released on both VHS and DVD. The release features "behind the scenes footage" and a John Doggett character profile.
ThanX to Lyle and Matthew.
Season 9
For those sticking around for season 9 ...
LOS ANGELES (The Hollywood Reporter) --- Chris Carter
is sticking with "The X-Files" for a ninth season.
Carter, creator and executive producer of "The X-Files," has inked a new deal with 20th Century Fox TV to remain at the helm of the venerable Fox drama series next season. Carter will serve as showrunner and alongside his seasoned team of executive producers, Frank Spotnitz, Vince Gilligan and John Shiban.
Carter is said to have wrestled with the decision on whether to commit to running the show or to segue into a consultant role. But after lengthy negotiations, 20th and Carter finalized a new one-season deal late last week.
"Chris has so many ideas for this show as we go forward," Fox Broadcasting Co. president of
entertainment Gail Berman said. "Chris and Frank and John and Vince are the life and breath of this series. We are thrilled that he is coming back with his team in place."
"X-Files" underwent a major overhaul during the past season as David Duchovny scaled back his involvement in his final season, while Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish were recruited as new agents on the out-there beat.
Gillian Anderson has said publicly that she intends to leave the show when her contract expires at the end of next season, but Fox insiders said there will be an effort to make the coming season a kind of new beginning for the series to allow it to carry on with Patrick, Gish and other new actors should Anderson depart.
ThanX Maria.
Scully's Theme
Scully's Theme, Mark Snow's recurring theme from season 8 sparked quite a bit of interest and can now be downloaded as an MP3 file from X-Files Music.com: The X-Philes Music Source. There's even a link on The X-Files Official Site .... it's a bit of shock the OS is linking to a fan site .... Been looking for the Mark Snow music from Season 8's mythology episodes? The one that plays when Scully's doing a lot of thinking? Although it's not released on CD, the song that features the voice of Nicci Sill can be downloaded off the internet at www.x-filesmusic.com. This website also has music from past seasons, the feature film and The Lone Gunmen, as well as parodies on certain themes in the show..
ThanX Clare.
David Duchovny Touched?
Singapore's The Strait Times reports that Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) is in talks with Hugh Jackman, David Duchovny and Ewan McGregor for one of the trio to star as the male lead in the new China-set action adventure The Touch she's producing.
ThanX Clare.

EVOLUTION
Reviewed by Shannon J Harvey, Richard Kuipers, Andrew L. Urban.

"Evolution is actually a disaster movie. Rather, a movie disaster." Says Andrew. Richard concurs "I found this dull after 10 minutes and intolerable by the half way point"
- The latest Cinebuzz newsletter mentions an Evolution review at the Greater Union website:
Yes, there is a funny side to alien invasion as David Duchovny and pals show us in Evolution, a close encounter of the weird kind involving a quick-changing life form that the Men In Black conveniently failed to mention.
- This also from the same Cinebuzz newsletter
Something we thought we would share with you. It appears that Evolution star, David Duchovny, with hands-on help from wife, Tea Leoni, has been creating works of art with his bum! We knew some peoples' tastes were in that part of their anatomy, but how can we argue when Duchovny's paintings a la posterior have been helping charities and have sold for as much as $3,500?
- There was a David Duchovny article in the free magazine 9 to 5 this week. You can read the article on their website.
- The AMV website made Evolution their movie of the week.

Site Update
As you've noticed, the frequency of updates has dropped dramatically lately. Looking after a baby is a full-time job :-)!!! Plus I've had to work a lot of overtime lately because it's the end of the financial year. Sleep is a precious commodity and I've only turned on my PC twice in the last ten days.
As I've said before, I have many transcripts, courtesy of the wonderful Lucy, that I will add as soon as I get a chance.
I'll add other news whenever I can, but can't promise too many updates in the next 2 months at least.
News Update
- There's a very negative review of Evolution in the latest issue of Sain - free from your local Sanity store. (Issue #37, July)
- I guess no-one needs reminding that Evolution starts screening around Australia this coming Thursday (July 12).
- There's a stack of other news (Evolution reviews etc) that I'll try and add over the next day or so.
Added Sunday, July 1, 2001
Site Update
Still haven't got any spare time to do much to the site ... a new baby certainly takes up just about all of your time!! William!! I can't believe Scully named her baby William too. I've added Existence to my Season 8 episode guide.
VCR Alert
There will be an Evolution review on Blockbuster Entertainment next Saturday (July 7) on channel 10 at 6pm. That same night, from 7:30pm, channel 9 will be screening a repeat of Magic's Biggest Secrets Finally Revealed III, narrated by Mitch Pileggi.
Bits and Pieces
There was a (negative and very sarcastic) story on the David Duchovny Evolution premiere in the Sydney Morning Herald Friday week ago (June 22).
The winning entry to a Swordfish competition on Urban Cinefile, that asked whose computer would you hack into, came from Greg Hackett who wanted to hack into the FBI, but only to see why Scully and Mulder never got together.
All the following from Lucy:
Last week's NW and the July Australian Good Taste have House of Mirth reviews as did last Sunday's Sun-Herald. [The latter was a very negative review]. There were also HOM reviews in the Sunday Tasmanian (June 17), Daily Telegraph and Herald Sun (June 14) and the Weekend Australian of June 16-17. The Herald Sun review was identical to the Time Off review.
Grab yourself a copy of the promotional flyer for House of Mirth, available at some cinemas.
Last week's New Idea has a photo of David Duchovny and article with their psychic Georgina Parker who did a reading for him.
There was a David Duchovny article in the June 15 issue of Tasmania's The Mercury newspaper.
The latest Take 5 magazine has a 2 page article on David Duchovny, accompanied by 6 photos.
Lucy has provided transcripts for the above articles and I will try and add them all soon.
Essence was reviewed in the June 21 issue of the Herald Sun and last Saturday's Courier Mail had a brief review of The X-Files Movie giving it 2 1/2 star rating. The Mackay paper The Daily Mercury, in their June 21 TV Times lifout had an X-Files cover of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson in a scene from the movie however there was no article inside!
Woman's Day has a photo of David Duchovny in its Celebrities favourite jokes feature article, accompanied by the following:
David Duchovny passed this tale along to cast members on his new film, Evolution.
A police officer stops a young woman for speeding and asks her nicely if she'll show him her driving licence. Huffily, she replies,"I wish you guys would make up your mind. Just yesterday, you take away my licence, then today you expect me to show it to you!".
Finally the air-freighted July issues of the UK magazines Dreamwatch and Empire have arrived at some Australian newsagencies. Dreamwatch has a 4 page Evolution article while Empire has a 4 page question and answer with David Duchovny and a 1 page article on Evolution. Issue no 55 of Xpose, now at local newsagents, has a Lone Gunmen cover and 4 page article on them inside.
Movie Show
You can read The Movie Showreview of Evolution at their website.
