The Sea Shadow is still highly classified, but here are the details that have been released. The design gives it the stealth design is similar to the F-117 and is as effective. The engine is kept above the water level to reduce sonar contact and the ship is balanced on 2 stilts to greatly reduce the wake that is left behind. This ship may sneak up on enemy craft and is not vulnerable to radar guided, sea skimming missiles that others are. The ship may take on water and then be slightly submerged in the water to release cargo or weapons from the bottom of the ship. |

The destroyer is the general workhorse of the United States Navy. They are small and supremely seaworthy. Destroyers and guided missile destroyers operate in support of carrier battle groups, surface action groups, amphibious groups and replenishment groups. Destroyers primarily perform anti-submarine warfare duty while guided missile destroyers are multi mission surface combatants. The addition of the Mk-41 Vertical Launch System or Tomahawk Armored Box Launchers to many Spruance Class destroyers has greatly expanded the role of the destroyer in strike warfare. |

Modern U. S. Navy guided missile cruisers perform a battle force role. These ships are multi-mission surface combatants, capable of supporting carrier battle groups, amphibious forces, operate independently, or as flagships of surface action groups. Due to their extensive combat capability, these ships have been designated as battle force capable units. The cruisers are equipped with Tomahawk missiles giving them additional long range strike mission capability. |
