Here we are on our 25th anniversary at our hotel in Paris.

May 29, 2001

This was taken on a family vacation when our girls were younger.  We visited Colorado, where our oldest daughter was born.  As you can see we had a great time with the snow in the summer time.

Mark and I love to travel when we have the opportunity.  Every few years we do something special.  We went to Paris for our 25th anniversary, in 2001, and spent a week there.

In the summer of 2003 we went to visit our daughter while she was in the Air Force and stationed at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California.  We took in the sights within driving distance of there, including San Franciso and magnificent Big Sur.

In June of 2004, I traveled alone to visit our foreign exchange daughter in Sweden for her graduation from the gymnasium.

The summer of 2005 we visited my family in South Dakota and went to Mexico to get away from it all.  We did some beach bumming and shopping where it is cheap, and we ate wonderful Mexican meals.

In May, 2006 our family had reason to celebrate when our grandson, Mark, was born.  We traveled to Maryland to enjoy our daughter's family and the baby's baptism.  Mark & I were sponsors for him.  Whle there, we visited many of the Baltimore and Washington, DC area attractions.

In 2006 for our 30th anniversary, we took a trip to the New England states.  Neither one of us had been to New England before.  We stayed in a bed and breakfast for a week in Wilmington, Vermont during the month of July, rented a car, and just enjoyed spending time with no schedules.  We decided that the cool days we spent there were a wonderful change from the 100 degree days we have here in Texas during the month of August!

I traveled alone to South Dakota in the summer of 2006 to visit my mom and brother, and renew my spirits in my home state.  It is always good to go home and enjoy family around you.

Mark & I have always enjoyed traveling.  We enjoy tasting various cultures and seeing other ways of life.  Many years ago we both went entirely around the world on a concert mission tour.  We traveled to France, Italy, Greece, Lebonan, Cyprus, Israel, Egypt, India, Thailand, Hong Kong, Japan, the Phillipian islands, Taiwan and Hawaii on the tour that took about 6 weeks to complete.  We had the opportunity to meet world leaders like Prime Minister Indiri Ghandi and the royal family of Thailand.  Over the years I have been to all but a very few of our states.  Enjoying the diversity of our world is enlightening and keeps us learning new things.

I cannot say this any better than the song writer who wrote the lyrics to the classic folk song, "Home on the Range".  It fits my home state, South Dakota, beautifully.  Even though today the buffalo do not roam freely as they once did, they still roam the prairies I know as my home.    Leann McClain

O give me a home,
Where the buffalo roam,
Where the deer and the antelope play.
Where seldom is heard,
A discouraging word,
And the skies are not cloudy all day.

Home, home on the range,
Where the deer and the antelope play.
Where seldom is heard,
A discouraging word,
And the skies are not cloudy all day.

My reason for vacations:

"I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from?  My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth."  Psalm 121:1-2

Rest and rejuvenation is good for your outlook on life.

I took these pictures on our vacations.  I hope you enjoy them!

I spent 3 weeks in Sweden in June of 2004.  It is the homeland of my father's parents and home to our foreign exchange daughter.  I took in Swedish Flag day at Malmö, Sweden in June of 2004 while visiting my exchange daughter's home in nearby Lömma.  The dancers were having a great time doing traditional folk dancing and this child was precious as she thoroghly enjoyed the day.
