PAPER/ADS/BILLS.
When going through stacks of paper people often feel the need to keep them so they can re- read them. Be honest with yourself, look back at the times you actually did do this. Look at this objectively and you will realize that in actuality... you never do.
So ask yourself, Why are you keeping this?
What I tell myself when dealing with papers I am doubting about is that I am setting them free and allowing them to be re- used. That if I keep them they will end up loosing all purpose and will just be in my way, since if I am honest with myself I have to admit I won't re-read them anyway.
You have to stop telling yourself that by saving everything you are losing nothing. Because you are losing your quality of life and that's something you will never be able to make a copy or duplicate of.
Your stacks of paper are not holding your life they are holding you back from a life. How will you be able to enjoy the memories of those photo's, how will you be able to find the special recipe if it's hidden so deeply in a pile of things you don't even know what they are.
DEALING WITH PAPER.
- This is a simple trick I use for myself and which works wonders.
When I am in doubt whether or not to keep a paper, like whether that receipt will truly be worth saving, or that magazine with a really interesting article I will probably never read anyway or that ad that has such a cool picture, I close my eyes and rip the paper in 2. This does 2 things: ruins your ability to read this so why keep it and it doesn't interfere with it being able to be recycled.
So close your eyes and rip in 2.
Is kind of all or nothing thinking, but helps me when I am doubting.
May sound strange to actually feel relief from not being able to get the paper back, but if you try this, you will see it not only brings relief but it also gets easier with each time.
- Like with most items you should ask yourself: When was the last time I used this? So you never did use that recipe for that amazing looking cake? Then chances are you will be fine with the 1 you might have in your book. Want to keep them anyway? Make a book for them.
DEALING WITH ADS.
- If the ad really is the opportunity of a life- time, you surely would have made yourself that million dollars or car richer. If you didn't follow up on it yet it will be too late. Besides, chances are very likely that the ad was trying to sell you something, not give.
- Look around yourself, do you really have to know about that new product? The answer is NO. Plus those ads are just stores on paper, meaning that a store is stacked with all the stuff you get in the ads but you won't have to keep the entire store in your home to find the product.
- Ads will be resend and you probably won't look at them then either.
The purpose of ads is to be sent often and in bulk. So you can safely throw those out without missing out on any chances.
- Count on your fingers how often you have used a coupon. Are you able to count past 10? If you can't then stop fooling yourself that you will start today. Chances are you are getting a reduction of $5 on something you never had thought of buying in the first place.
Even coupons are just there for you to buy and consume, nothing more nothing less.
- 1 last point is that throwing out old stacks of paper which may contain ads and coupons is NOT the same as throwing out money. Don't kid yourself. Like I said, these price reductions are only there to get you to buy things you never might have wanted to buy otherwise. Plus, if they really were the substitute of money... how come they have an expiration date? That pile of ads might be filled with paper money (Even just a few dollars.), but the type you can't take to the bank.
DEALING WITH BILLS.
- If ever by accident you throw out a bill that still needs to be paid, know that credit- owners most likely will send you another 1 to remind you of that. If you forget about them, you better be sure they won't forget about you if you owe them.
- Also, buy yourself a map or box in which you will always put your bills.
Make it a rule to IMMEDIATELY place bills there. Don't wait with such things, if they arrive deal with them right then.
