RECYCLING.

Recycling something is an option many Hoarders seem to prefer to throwing away. But let's face it, you can't recycle everything and even if so, someone will have to get the stuff to the recycling center. The concept of recycling stuff and not wasting things is wonderful. Is just that the collecting part comes rather easily and the getting rid of collected recyclable items isn't always.

Some people may benefit from having a recycling area close to where they live, others will have to invest a little more effort.

Let's start with the every- day life recycling.
So How Do You Structure This?
  1. Most communities have a recylcing center that will accept anything from furniture to books and papers. Contact these people and see what exactly they accept and what not. What to you may look like a usable vacuum cleaner may not to them. If they have to invest too much money trying to repair something they have no use for it and in a way the same applies to you.
  2. Garage Sales are a great way of getting rid of some of your stuff. But be honest with yourself, will you actually go through the hassle of setting 1 up? If you doubt even a little, don't fool yourself that this is the option you will try.
If you do want to give it a try ask someone's help with this.
  3. There are ways online to get your clutter into online auctions, the main issue with this is the fact that at the same time this means someone who hoards has easy and constant acces to more things to purchase.
  4. Putting ads to let people know you have specific things for sale works if you do so consistently and have something valid for offer. People don't stand in line looking for items that are almost-not-broken. They look for true collectibles and that doesn't include old newspapers that have been used as a coffee table for years.
Every Day Recycling.
So How Do You Structure This?
  1. Find out when and/or where the Recycleable goods are picked up.
  2. Now find out approximately how much paper, glass and so forth you gather in a period of 1 to 2 weeks, this way you know just how many recipients you have to keep handy.
  3. Attribute a recipient to each type of recycle items: paper, glass and so forth...
  4. The most important point is to NOT exceed the capacity of these containers.
No such thing as adding another box or another bag, if the container is full deal with the content by bringing it to the recycling center.
If after those 1 or 2 weeks they still aren't full, go empty them anyway.

Make it into a habit of emptying the containers even when they aren't completely full after the 1 or 2 weeks. While the speed at which these containers will fill up will vary depending on your household and what you consume, your determination to deal with their content on a weekly or bi- weekly basis shouldn't.
SET LIMITS.

Really is important to be rigid here and to not stall by telling yourself you can wait some more and add a new box or whatever.
Why? Because with everytime you wait and cut the clutter some slack, you will be making a step backwards.
