MEG LEE CHIN - London-based electronics whiz Meg Lee Chin (Taiwanese mother/American father) spent part of her childhood living in Taipei slums and studied Art at University of San Francisco. Chin moved to London and formed Crunch. Her solo current album, Piece and Love, took shape in her living room.

She is best known for her work with the industrial outfit Pigface. In solo efforts, however, Chin has recently discarded her Industrial sound and adopted radio-friendly genre of Trip-Hop. Chin's voice ranges from seductive whisper to blaring scream, and she does an excellent job in layering all her vocal abilities in a single song -- it's not uncommon to hear rap, straight-forward singing and wails all at the same time. If you love Trip-Hop, try her out!

JAMES WONG HOWE - a Chinese American cinematographer who photographed more than 100 movies and won two Academy Awards.

In 1922 he became a director of photography & quickly established a reputation as an inventive & meticulous craftsman. Initially known as James Howe, his Chinese name was added by MGM, hoping that a more exotic-sounding name would enhance publicity for both Howe and the studio!

Howe won Academy Awards for his cinematography for The Rose Tattoo (1955) and Hud (1963). Other notable films include Peter Pan (1924), The Thin Man (1934), The Prisoner of Zenda (1937), They Made Me a Criminal (1939), Yankee Doodle Dandy (1942), Body and Soul (1947), Come Back Little Sheba (1953), Picnic (1956), The Sweet Smell of Success (1957), The Old Man and the Sea (1958), Funny Lady (1975) and many more

His Photographs of San Francisco's Chinatown collection contains images during World War II "to get behind the tourist front" of San Francisco's Chinatown, illustrate how the Chinese Americans have integrated into mainstream America and supported the U.S.' war efforts. He was born in 1899 and died 1976.

SANDRA TSING LOH - She is a writer/performer whose two off-Broadway solo shows include Bad Sex With Bud Kemp and Aliens In America, at Second Stage Theatre. Loh has been featured at HBO's U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen and on NPR, on Ira Glass' This American Life and on NPR's Morning Edition. Her books, all published by Riverhead (Penguin/Putnam), include Depth Takes a Holiday: Essays From Lesser Los Angeles, Aliens in America, and a novel, If You Lived Here, You'd Be Home By Now, which was named by the Los Angeles Times as one of the best books of 1997. Her solo piano CD Pianovision was produced by K2B2 Records. She can be heard on KCRW-FM on Tuesdays at 6:59 P.M. and on Wednesdays at 3:00 P.M.
