In honor of Cultural Diversity Month being celebrated during October, various unique and creative members of our communities will be featured below for your review. Their artistry will feature what magic can happen when combined our cultures are combined together!

JOANN FAUNG JEAN LEE - Joann Lee , Ph.D., is Director of Journalism, and Associate Professor at Queens College (CUNY).

She is author of Asian American Actors, Virtual Escape and Asian Americans.

Her career in Journalism spans over 25 years. As the first Asian American journalist hired by CNN, as well as its first New York Correspondent, she covered Wall Street, the United Nations, and the courts. She was also the first Asian American tv reporter to be hired for ABC and CBS local affiliate stations in Sacramento, Chicago, and Philadelphia.

She created and is director of the T.W. Wang Awards for Excellence in Coverage of Chinese American Issues, a national journalism award sponsored by the World Journal in 2000.

Her articles and commentaries about Asian Americans and the media have appeared in such major media organizations as Newsday, the San Francisco Chronicle, Asian Week, Editor and Publisher.

She earned a MS degree in Journalism from Columbia University.

SANDRA S. KING - is Al Gore's National Director for Asian and Pacific Islander American outreach. This American Samoa native has extensive experience in policy development and outreach to Asian and Pacific Islander Americans. She has worked for the U.S. Department of Interior and for U.S. Senator Daniel K. Inouye on the Senate Rules and Administration Committee. She holds a law degree from George Washington University School of Law, Washington, D.C.

DR. CHANG-LIN TIEN - Tien, 65, became internationally known as a leader in higher education during his tenure as UC Berkeley chancellor from 1990 to 1997. He is currently the NEC Distinguished Professor of Engineering at UC Berkeley and is one of 19 faculty members in the nine-campus University of California system to hold the title of University Professor. He is also a leading voice in the Asian American community and co-founder of 80-20.

ALBERTA LEE - has become the impassioned spokeswoman for Asian American civil rights as the result of her father's (Dr. Wen Ho Lee) nine months solitary confinement in irons without being charged or convicted. She said she worked so hard for her father "because the most agonizing thing for me is that I didn't want to look back in 10 years and wonder if I should have done more.
