STUDIO 2...

WHAT IS 'STUDIO 2’ ?
‘Studio 2’ is unique in that it is the only student operated closed circuit radio station successfully run in an Australian educational institution.  From a studio situated directly above the S.R.C. office in Building 14, programmes are relayed by landline to the broadcast area in Bowen Street and the cafeteria.

HISTORY AND THE  NEW STUDIO
History dates back about six years when ‘Studio 1’ was conceived to broadcast lunchtime entertainment in Storey Hall on two days each week.  For several reasons ‘Studio 1’ had to be discontinued and the interests were transferred to the present location under the new title ‘Studio 2’.  Beset with lack of organisation. and problems 'Studio 2’ deteriorated until last year when a batch of enthusiastic students restored it to efficient operation.  The equipment was, however, very old and dilapidated and a complete overhaul would have been insufficient.

This was the reason for conceiving and designing the new studio.  With generous assistance from local manufacturers, the co-operation of people within the RMIT and a grant from the S.R.C, the 25 members were able to engage the gears and get the ball rolling.

RESULT - an extremely modern, efficient, and even luxurious studio, despite the limited finance.  It was hard work with many difficulties, but we are proud of the result and very grateful to the companies who made it possible.

PROGRAMMES.
It has been found that students who listen to 'Studio 2’ appreciate a wide range of music including folk, pop, jazz and light classical.

Our programmes aim to include a balanced proportion of these together with news, humour, and so on, but perhaps the most important function is to broadcast notices of current events.

‘Studio 2’ is run very much along the same lines as a commercial radio station.  As well as the announcers and panel operators, certain members of staff are appointed as Program Manager, Record Managers, Advertising Manager, Technical Engineers, Recording Engineers, and a typist.
