You Can Never Have Too Many Dogs!

"Brook" for Maggie and Dave Severino

Brook is a rescued Shepherd who was lucky
enough to land in a great home! My heroes
Maggie and Dave work tirelessly in animal rescue.

"Muffin" for Sherry Erdmann

Muffin's portrait was the first time I
learned to pay particular attention to the
light reflecting the soul in their eyes.

"Samba" for Gail Isaacson and Dave Repetto

Samba was cherished by one of the
most devoted couples I have ever met.
It is a wonderful feeling to know there
are such nice homes for our animal
friends out there!
The background is a custom loomed rug from
their living room, so seeing the finished painting
hanging in that room gives a neat effect!

"Don & Murphy" for Sharon Johnson

Speaking of good homes!
Murphy was the "main man", so it was
to be a portrait of Don and him.
However not to be left out, Sharon and Don's
new pup Clancy, was included in the picture on the ledge!

"Belle" for Anne LaCanne

"Southern Belle V" is a whole lot of dog!
She wears a special harness
as she is such an energetic walker!

Anne LaCanne says:
"Having seen Libby's work for years, I decided to surprize
my husband with a portrait of our new Bloodhound puppy.
He was so proud of her that it seemed a fitting way to honor
both of them. Although there was no hurry to get the work done,
Libby immediately arranged a "sitting" (a very funny thing
considering Bloodhound puppies rarely do just that!) to start.

I wanted it to be a secret, so we pretended
Libby was doing a "study" of the hound dog breed.
It turned out to be a great day for proper light for the
photography but it was very hot, and of all the shots taken,
only a handful showed our lovely hound without her huge tongue
hanging out. But then a few skillfully offered pieces of cheese did the trick.

It was exciting to see the portrait as it progressed and it
was done well ahead of schedule. Libby offered me tips
and suggestions on framing and how to care for the art once it was displayed.
It is absolutely beautiful and displays our hound in perfect, natural detail.
Libby is a joy to work with and most professional in all
aspects of her work. What better way to remember our pet
...for a lifetime!"

"Millie" for Tim & Deb Haman

Millie is extremely well trained.
This was to be a surprise for Deb
from Tim. So I came to take photos when
Deb wasn't there, and Millie chose the pose!

"Donna and Maggie" for Joe Weinzatl

What a beautiful pose.
I don't want to scandalize anyone
but they do remind me of the Madonna and Child!

"Gabby" for Rhonda Murphy as a gift,
commissioned by her friend Valerie DeVries

What a lovely dog!
A white dog is extremely challenging to paint.
It's a challenge to show shadow and detail and not have it look dirty!

Valerie says:
"I commissioned Gabby for a friend, who sees him
as her fourth "child". Gabby's joy of life jumps right
off the canvas in a way it never does from a photograph.
When you look at it, you can't help but smile back
at him. When I visit and look up on the wall and see
his "smiling" face, I can never feel depressed.
Though, my friend did cry when she received the painting!
Her brothers and sister are already fighting to see
who will inherit it!"

"RuthAnn's Breakfast Audience" for Dr. and Mrs. Robert Peterson

What a great Christmas surprise for Ruthann from
her husband! He sent me a selection of photos
I sent Bob a sketch of the composition,
and Ruthann had no idea until she found the painting
propped in front of a vase of two dozen roses
Now THAT'S a romantic guy!
