Terengganu is one Malaysian state truly blessed with a wealth of charming
landscapes and natural wonders. Its 225 km coastline of white sandy
beaches, quaint fishing villages, captivating offshore islands and aquamarine
waters make it a great holiday destination.
Among its attractions is Kenyir Lake, a rock-filled dam that has become
an angler's haven. Sekayu Watefalls with its seven cascades, natural
landscape and varied wildlife is yet another. Even the vibrant cottage
industries involved in the making of traditional handicrafts, such as
songket, batik, brassware, pandanus mats and basket weaving, bear testimony
to a people whose heritage dates back as far as 2,000 years.
The beach resorts of Tanjung Jara and Rantau Abang, sixty kilometres
south of Kuala Terengganu, the state capital, are also points of interest
to see. The latter beach is particularly fascinating as it is one of
the best places to watch Giant Leatherback turtles. Equally impressive
are the islands of Pulau Perhentian, Pulau Redang, Pulau Kapas, Pulau
Tenggol and Pulau Lang Tengah in the Marine Park, which is both picturesque
and abundant in marine life.
