Negeri Sembilan literally means "Nine States".
The state is so named because it comprises nine districts. Located on
the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia, it shares borders with Selangor
to the north, Pahang to the east, and Johor and Malacca to the south,
encompassing an area of 6,645 square kilometres.
This is the land of early settlers from Minangkabau in Sumatera. A people
rich in culture, the Minangkabau heritage is today reflected in much
of the state's architecture, such as the Istana Lama Seri Menanti, and
their matrilineal system (Adat Perpateh). Other attractions in the state
include the Cultural Handicraft Complex at Labu Spur, the Pedas Hot
Springs, the ancient megaliths at Pengkalan Kempas and the Seremban
Lake Gardens.
A state noted primarily for its recreational sites; Negeri Sembilan
boasts of one spectacular resort along its 48 km coastline - Port Dickson.
With numerous seaside facilities and accommodations; ranging from up-market
resorts to budget hotels; it is one of the top destinations along the
west coast of Peninsular Malaysla.
