Johor, the southern gateway is the
third largest state in Peninsular Malaysia. Covering an area of
19,984 square kilometres at the southern end of the peninsula, it
shares borders with the states of Pahang to the north and Malacca
and Negeri Sembilan to the west. A causeway carrying a road and
railway line connects the state capital Johor Bahru, to Singapore
in the south. A second road link across the Johor Straits has also
been opened connecting Tanjing Kupang in Johor to Tuas in Singapore.
Those who wish to sail around Johor's inlets and coves can do so
in the waterways off its southern coast. For holilday makers seeking
to bask in the tropical sun or explore underwater worlds, they can
choose from the well-known beach resort of Desaru or the beautiful
islands off the east coast of Johor. The marine parks of Johor are
centred around the islands of Pulau Sibu, Pulau Aur, Pulau Tinggi,
Pulau Besar, Pulau Tengah, Pulau Hujong and Pulau Rawa.
