Kedah,
situated in the northern western region of Peninsular Malaysia, has
a population of over one million. With vast stretches of padi fields
against a backdrop of green mountains; it is commonly referred to as
the "Rice Bowl of Malaysia".The state capital, Alor Setar, has many
interesting attractions; including the State Museum, Pekan Rabu Bazaar,
State Mosque, Balai Besar and Balai Nobat. Other places of interest
include the archaeological discoveries at Lembah Bujang, Gunung Jerai
- the highest peak in northern Malaysia and the serene waters of Pedu
Lake. Off its coast lies the legendary island of Langkawi with its attractive
white beaches; aquamarine waters and spectacular sunsets.
