"If two people agree on everything, one person is not necessary." Opposites
I love to travel, guess what? He doesn't. When the temperature reaches 80° I am comfortably warm. At 65° he is fanning his face, looking at his wife with suspicious eyes remarking, "You didn't turn the heat on!"

I am active, he isn't. I love change, he loves the same old routine. I found this saying in a cartoon many years ago and it comes close to the truth in our house: "I'd like to live life in the fast lane, but I'm married to a speed bump!"

We loved these traits in each other before we were married, but living with them is another matter.

I love to be spontaneous. You might guess right away that he is not, and you would be right. If I want to go to a show (or some such activity), I need to ask him at least a day or two ahead of time so he can think about it and get himself ready. When he wants to go to somewhere, he quietly makes his plans a few days ahead, but only at the last minute says to me, "Get your shoes on, we're going out!" He loves to see the surprise and glee on my face. Everybody is happy.

After 44 years
We have almost perfected the art of negotiating. We are still learning and adjusting. Marriage with the same man is not boring, it's a challenge.

Good thing my husband is a good sport and loves to see his wife happy. Good thing his wife has stopped trying to change him and cherishes him as a unique person...just as he is now.

What do we have in common? We really enjoy each other's company. We like to go on long drives together (home and back in the same day of course), visit antique shops, museums and occasionally a shopping mall for a good long walk. "Whip out that VISA Buddy, more surprises ahead!"

Lessons learned the hard way:
(Is there some other way?
