You may notice that the characters have anime-style stat lists, and that the birthdays are not based on any real calendar. That's because Crestal uses a different calendar, based on their religion (at least in the Torian Mountains.) I'll explain it roughly here, and later will get up a full page talking about the calendar on Crestal. The calendar is made up of 12 months with 30 days each. Seasons are three months long, and each month is named for the god that it is representing (Much like how, using our astrology, the month you are born in allies you with a certain planet). The months are:

  • Altherion: The ruling god, and the highest figure in the religion. He has the first month because it symbolizes how he created the world of Crestal. Thus, since a new year is a new beginning, Altherion symbolizes the birth of the new age.
  • Athena: Athena is the goddess of wisdom, and also of war. For children who attend school, this is the first month of school in honor of Athena's first trait, and the crest of education is an Owl, the pet of Athena.
  • Persephone: Sometimes called Proserpina, she is the goddess of spring, and the first month of spring is her first month of freedom from Tartarus, where she must spend the winter months as the wife of Hades. Because the month is associated with flowers so much, the Persephone Del Fleur festival is usually held this time of year, where young girls dress in pure white, place flowers in their hair, and dance for everyone during the day.
  • Ceres: The harvesting of spring begins in this month, which is represented by the goddess of the harvest herself. Her month is immediatly following the month of her daughter.
  • Iris: The goddess of the rainbow, she is used because the rains that come so frequently are always followed by her rainbow.
  • Apollo: The god of the sun, his month is to symbolize the beginning of summer and the warmth that it brings. Because he also loves music, there are always festivals this time of year in which people gather to sing and play instruments.
  • Venus: Venus is the goddess of love. This month is very important, as it is the beginning of the three most sacred months, where the people remember the legend of the three talismans who had brought the destruction of the demon-god, Cerelius, when he came to destroy the world. Venus's month is a time of light, and also a time when many people are wed. It is said that people born in Venus's month have good fortune in love. This is a month where pure love is celebrated, especially the love that would ultimately lead to the near destruction of the world.
  • Adonis: Adonis is unique in that this month is the only one named for a mortal. Adonis was born the child of a king and a lowly servant, who he sought to kill to prevent the discovery of the child. Adonis' mother was turned into a tree to protect him, and her son was later born of the tree, which came to be known as the Myrrh in her honor. For this reason, myrrh trees are often the center of festivals celebrating the brief, blissful love of Venus for Adonis, for she forsook the heavens to be by his side. Adonis was a wanderer, and it is often thought that people born in this month are fairly introverted due to this.
  • Ares: The first month of fall, and the last of three holy months. Because Ares was the god of war, this month seemed appropriate, as everything is slowly beginning to turn crimson, like blood. Ares, due to his jealousy over Adonis, is a fairly tragic month, because he led to the first great destruction by the Lord Nemesis, Cerelius. This month is also when those who died in battle are remembered, and all weapons are purified and cleansed in special rituals.
  • Artemis: The goddess of the moon, this month is when the moon is usually most pure, hence it is named for her. There is always a festival of the hunt this time of year, in honor of her status as also being the goddess of the hunt.
  • Dionysus: This month is the last month before the winter, and because the grapes are harvested at this time, Dionysus was given this month of wine, for he is the god of this drink. The wine festivals are also accompanyed by theatrical performances, since Dionysus is the patron god of theater. This festival is very popular, not only because of the great entertainment, but also the wine.
  • Morta: This last month of the year is when the land begins to die. Hence, the fate, Morta, who cuts the thread at the end of a person's life, is given this month. The year has come to an end, and now it is cut.

Venus, take me back!
Venus, take me home!
