Filming Locations I know alot of you want to get as close as possible to the filming of the movies. So rather than answer hundreds of the same emails, I am posting this link once again. If you want a map of filming locations visit this website. For Alnwick Castle Details used as Hogwarts School click here Location for Gringotts, the wizards' bank The Exhibition Hall of the "Australia House" in London, home of the Australian embassy (High Commission) in the U.K., has been transformed into the Goblin-run wizards bank "Gringotts." In the second week of November 2000, Warner Bros. shot the scenes with, besides many others, Warwick Davis starring as a Goblin banker. The Sydney Morning Herald reported on Nov. 6: "Staff working at the oldest continuously used diplomatic mission in London have been sworn to secrecy under an agreement with Warner Bros that will net taxpayers an estimated $27,500-$55,000 [up to US$30,000]. The three-day film deal gives Warner Bros carte blanche to do whatever it likes in the hallowed Exhibition Hall, whose gothic columns and 600-square-metre floor are made from a mix of specially imported Australian marble." Location for Hogwarts: Alnwick Castle and Gloucester Cathedral The Duke of Northumberland, owner of Alnwick Castle, claims on his website: "We are fortunate and privileged in being a location for Hogwarts School in the forthcoming Harry Potter film." Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited Castle in England, the first being Windsor Castle, and has been the home of the Percys, Earls and Dukes of Northumberland since 1309. The earliest mention of Alnwick Castle in the history books appears soon after 1096.
Picket Post Close in Bracknell, Berkshire will be Privet Drive. The little town of Bracknell (pop. 50,000), in Berkshire just outside of London, played host to the second unit for the Harry Potter film on September 22, 2000. The location, a "perfectly normal" suburban road called Picket Post Close, has been selected to depict Privet Drive, the location of Harry's home with his Aunt and Uncle, the Dursleys. Location for Hogwarts Library and Madamme Pomfrey's Hospital Room The Bodleian Library is the main research library of the University of Oxford. It is also a copyright deposit library and its collections are used by scholars from around the world. The central buildings include Duke Humfrey's Library above the Divinity School, the Old Schools Quadrangle with its Great Gate and Tower, the Radcliffe Camera, Britain’s first circular library, and the Clarendon Building. Hogwarts Classroom Scenes: Durham Cathedral Besides Gloucester Cathedral and Oxford, a third location was used for filming scenes from Hogwarts school of wizardry and witchcraft: Durham Cathedral. The Warner Bros. crew filmed there in October 2000. The Picture on the left shows a Hallway at Durham Cathedral that was used in the filming of the courtyard scene seen in the first Harry Potter Trailer.
