Skyfire was now
the target of agression. Both animals tried to knock it out
of the air, with their radiation breath. The giant ship took
a few more hits, before backing off enough to lose attention. With
the retreat, the creatures resumed their dispute.
Parts of Honolulu
were still standing, while others looked like a war zone. The
battle between the two, was moving toward the Diamondhead district. This
was good... It would save much of the city, and allow Skyfire
more room to move without the buildings being in the way.
By noon, the
disrupter weapon was complete. The only way, this had been acomplished
so quick, was to convert an existing missile. If it worked right,
the device would set up a lethal chain reaction between hydrogen
and oxygen, with-in saline. The plan was, to launch this
weapon into one of 'Molokai's' wounds. Once activated, it would turn
the monster's blood, into a corrosive... It would be circulated
through the system, much like a venom. The only question mark,
was it's effect on the already unstable elements... The assumption
was, it would accelerate the process. Any reservations that Tammy,
or Max had, over using this incidious weapon, were lost in
seeing Godzilla's new diet.
Stanton had the
completed device loaded on a chopper... Along with it's four creators.
He wished he could argue this point, but knew the opperation
was better off with the team. Now, the copter was on it's
way to Skyfire's local. The transfer would be tricky, at best... The
helicopter would land atop the massive ship-like machine, and deliver
the goods. This would be done, in sight... And range, of the two
monsters.
All these worries
were laid to rest, as the disrupter weapon was brought though
Skyfire's blast doors... The four member group, along with it. Now
the chopper began it's escape, but wasn't so lucky. A stray
blast of radiation fire, took it out of the sky. Aside from
this, the two monsters were still invloved with each other's destruction.
Max felt lucky for this.
With-in minutes,
the four were in the contol center of the massive machine, setting
up for the attack. The device was loaded into a special launcher,
by the weapons crew. The targeting system had been beefed up,
and focused on this one launcher... It was closing in on 'Go'
time. "I hope we got this damn thing, workin' right!" Murphy admitted.
"...We don't have time, to build another one." Max reminded. "Hey, no
problems, Murph... Just don't miss!" Sue exclaimed. "You're not makin'
this, any easier, ya know!" Murphy grunted, working over his alignment
scope. "You can do it,.. But keep in mind, it's one of the
most important shots, in our future." Tammy added, nervously. "Tammy,
no offense, but shut up!" Murphy said, sweating bullets.
"All right, tageting
system calibrated... Again." Murphy informed. "We're ready for phase two... Let's
get their attention, shall we?" Murphy added. "Yes sir!" The two
pilots replied. Skyfire let lose, with another salvo of weapons... Hitting
both monsters. Aggravated, the two stopped, looking back at the
machine once more. "Commence, opperation Snakebite!" Murphy exclaimed. Now,
the weapons were targeted on the wounded 'Molokai'... This would hopfully,
seperate the two animals. For a second, both Godzillas' looked
as if they were going to attack. But Skyfire's concentrated blasts
on 'Molokai' did the trick.
'Molokai' responded
by rushing toward the machine. The pilots brought Skyfire higher, out
of reach of the reptile. 'Pearl' seemed to be watching, as
if curious to see, what the ship had in store for it's
wounded advisary. Murphy was busy working his targeting scope... Looking
for a deep enough wound, to deliver the weapon. 'Molokai' was
still a force to be recconed with, roaring defiantly at the ship
before it. Max sunk in his chair, watching the giant's head. "Any
time would be good,.. like yesterday, maybe?!" He prodded. "You know,
we can't miss!" Murphy answered from behind his visor. "I know...But
if we sit here much longer,.. He's not going to miss!"
Insisted Max. "We just got lucky! The other one, must 'uv gone
at his shoulder! The wound's huge!" Murphy exclaimed. "Firing... NOW!" He
added, pushing a special weapons toggle.

The missile hit it's mark... Sinking deep into the wounded
'Molokai'. The beast screamed in pain, leaping toward the massive ship.
But, the pilots were quicker, and Skyfire lifted safely away. "I
couldn't have done that better, on the simulator!" Murphy exclaimed.
"Now, activate that puppy, and let's get the hell outta here!"
Max said. "I hear that... Hit it!" Murphy answered. "Arming disrupter,.. 3,2,1,..
Now!" Sue exclaimed, hitting the weapon's switch. "Package delivered!"
Murphy exclaimed over the radio. "Copy that,.. Good shot, Murphy!" Came
Stanton's reply.
With the disrupter
active, all eyes were on the monster. Including, the other one...
Still showing interest, in the attack on it's foe. 'Molokai' screamed,
and began to writhe in pain. Seemingly, attacking the air around
it... The area where the missile had struck, now frothed with
liquid material. The device was working. The other monster was
even more interested, then before... Watching keenly, as if waiting
to pounce.
'Molokai' was mad
with pain... Using it's atomic breath on everything surrounding it.
Including the retreating Skyfire. Ironicly, this was a lucky shot.
The massive ship shuttered, one of it's hydrogen engines took the
hit. The pilots worked fevorishly, to regain control of the
pitching ship. Max braced himself, looking back at Murphy. "Did
I ever tell you, I hate roller-coasters!?" The ship steadied... Murphy's
crew had managed to correct the near crash. Now, Skyfire could
limp away to a safe distance.
The disrupter's
effect was getting worse. 'Molokai' was oozing with slimey froth,
from every wound. it was no longer, able to manage a fit
of rage... Instead, it staggered toward the ocean. 'Pearl' maintained
it's close watch on the wounded beast... "Looks like some one's
thinking, take out!" Murphy said, as they watched over the vid
screens. Max thought about this comment. "That could be an extraordinary
turn of events..." He said. "...Yeah,.. Kill one, get one free!" Sue caught
on. "save us the work?" Murphy said. "...Let's hope so, I don't
think the ship's gonna last much longer!" He added. The others looked
at him, puzzled. "Why, what's wrong?" Tammy asked. "...That engine we
lost?.. It'll start backfeeding hydro into the system.... If we don't
shut down soon, the whole thing'll blow up!" Murphy explained. "...That's
quite a design oversight." Tammy said. "Yeah, just when I was
beginning to like it!" Max added.
'Molokai' stumbled
along the beach-front... Now trailing froth from it's mouth. It wouldn't
be long, now. The dying beast moved slowly into the ocean, until
the water reached over it's waist. At this point, it slid
forward, under the waves. 'Pearl' rushed from it's position... Following the
other's death steps, into the dark sea. "He's gone after the
bait!" Murphy said, excitedly. "Let's hope, he doesn't realize, it's
tainted." Sue added, grounding the excitment. "True, if he figures it
out, he won't eat it!" Tammy added. "Let's pray, he's stupid!"
Murphy insisted.
Warning alarms went
off... The situation with Skyfire's engine was turning bad. "We got
backflow,.. The core's going south!" Murphy exclaimed, as the others
tightened their safty straps. "Hold on, I'm attempting an emergency
touch down..." Added Murphy. "...Here we go!" The giant machine came
to earth, in a group of open lots. The only damage, was
to a few small apartment buidings, nearby. Aside from this, the
landing was good. Now, they could let the engines cool down.
The mood in
Skyfire's control room, was relaxing a bit. Things might be all
right, after all. Murphy sent a few crewmen out to get a
circle check... They reported the starboard engine's protective skin was
breached. The engine was fried. Skyfire was crippled... It could fly,
but not well. And forget hovering.
Any one
who knows of Murphy's law, will tell you things go from
bad, to worse... Such was the unfolding events for Max and crew.
The 'Pearl' Godzilla re-emerged from the ocean. The giant reptile
seemed furious, as it strolled back to shore. Oh yeah, things
were getting worse!
