Transition - Posted on 5/4/2002

Now I heard rumors going around about a month or two before this CD came out that the reason for the delay was because Fiji was in a bidding war between two labels or something. Basically he was waiting to see which one would give him the better deal. Now I don't know which one would give him more money. Now I don't know if this is true or not, but the fact remains, I hate it when albums are ready to go, but they're not on the market yet. In any case, I was excited to hear that Fiji was coming out with a new album.

"Transition." The inherent meaning behind the title suggests some type of change or progression, which is a very accurate representation of this album. Transition represents a turning point with Fiji where he is musically right now, and a lot of tracks on the album show this. Some of them have a more hip hop R&Bish feel to them while the Polynesian/island sound is not as prevalent as in previous albums. It definitely lends to a different feel to it. However, there still are great songs that should receive more airtime. Songs like One featuring Bitty McLean and Why You are right up there with older favorites like Warrior of Love. In the end, not what I expected, but I will give credit for anyone that tries new things.
